Stoned childminder...

Someone I know, closely, is in the final stages of applying to be a childminder.
Thing is she's a very heavy user of marijuana.
She needs to use it every day, throughout the day, to help cope with a number of ongoing issues including longterm and severe depression.

Her illness and drug use makes her behaviour paranoid and erratic, she suffers from mood swings and debilitating panic attacks.

I think that this is entirely the wrong move for her and for her potential charges but she won't hear a word of it as she needs the money.

AIBU to speak with someone in authority about my concerns?

You'd be crazy not to speak to someone. Good luck.

YouLukaStunning · 21/09/2009 00:12

Please do speak to someone/report her

caramelwaffle · 21/09/2009 00:12

yanbu

scottishmummy · 21/09/2009 00:12

in fact unethical and irresponsible not to disclose what is known

pigletmania · 21/09/2009 00:25

YANBU she is totally unsuitable to be a childminder

alibubbles · 21/09/2009 07:58

Hopefully there will be something flagged up on her medical.

Drug driving is as serious as drink driving, so she shouldn't even thibk about taking any children out in the car, let alone minded children.

TBH, I wouldn't knw the smell if it was under my nose, so don't know if an inspector would!

posieparker · 21/09/2009 08:01

If there is something to report you should report it.

Kissmybooty · 21/09/2009 08:10

YANBU If I found out that you knew and didn't do anything about it and then something not so good happened I would be mad at you too Would you like this person to look after your child...

neversaydie · 21/09/2009 08:59

We, very briefly, used a childminder who was an alcoholic. This was with a personal recommendation from his previous childminder and checking references with other parents using her. She was an accomplished and convincing liar.

DS did not settle, was not happy and I was within a whisker of giving up work altogether when previous childminder found out about the booze problem and called me in a real state to tell me (and apologise). We removed ds within the hour.

Please, do what ever you have to, to make sure that this woman does not become a child minder. Don't rely on 'the system', because for the system to work, someone has to bite the bullet and pass on the information.

pigletmania · 21/09/2009 09:05

Yes report it to ofsead and ss in confidence so nobody knows its you, you have a duty to the children that might be in this womans care.

LoveBeingAMummy · 21/09/2009 09:10

What she tells you he has said and what he has actually said could be very different!

Defo need to do somehting, although maybe you could wait and see if she gets through as some others have said her medical reports may stop it.
