To have bought yet another buggy ............???

When I was pregnant with DS2, I bought a Graco Travel System as I had had one with DS1 and loved it (incidently, nothing wrong with the original one, just wanted a new one for the new baby ).

However, 6 days after DS2 came along, DS1 started school, so along with that came the dreaded "school run". After a couple of weeks, I realised that the Graco was actually far too big for my boot & quite heavy. It was also a PITA when I went shopping with both the kids as couldn't get many bags in the boot (obviously had space on the back seat when only had 1 DS) so sold it on eBay & bought myself a second hand Bebe Confort Loola Travel System because it is a lot smaller. Now, being me, I had to have the whole works.....chassis, seat unit, car seat, car seat base, changing bag, cosy toes & carry cot, even though I didn't actually need it all !! I then proceeded to replace every single part of it for brand new and sell the second hand parts, spending a small fortune.

Anyway, after watching The Apprentice I decided that I must have the Lebruss Take Off Pushchair that was featured on one of the episodes because it folds down to hand luggage size and would therefore take up much less boot space, so I ordered one of these and sold the Loola.

Now I have decided that I made a rash decision buying the Take Off because it is actually not very comfortable for my little one, no sides and doesn't recline very far (see here ), so have decided to sell it (after only having it a few months) and have ordered a Chicco For Me Top Stroller (with matching cosy toes & change bag of course ), so.........

........AIBU or am I just obsessed ?!?!?!?!?!?!

prams are like hand bags and shoes - i just can not get enough of them. if i had the money i would upgrade every 6 months

so you are totally normal in my book!

hubby got me a lovely chocolate brown coat for winter its so warm and great for the school runs so i have now just sold my old double pram and ordered a new chocolate brown one to match my coat
i'm a childminder and both my boys are at high school so i have to have a vice haha

ChunkyMonkeysMum · 18/09/2009 21:06

LOL @ dmo !!!

When DS1 was little, we got a Mini Cooper which was silver & black with a red leather interior. The Graco buggy I had at the time (part of a travel system) wouldn't fit in the ridiculously small boot, so I went to Halfords & bought a new one which was....yes, you guessed it, silver, black & red to match my car !!!

I'm going to be a dad in 7 months and I've been researching buggy/pram/travel systems for weeks - it's a minefield!

I'm like this with evey big purchase I make though. I hope I make the right decision as these things can be flippin' expensive.

YANBU if you didn't get it right the first (or second) time. Just get it right this time, though!

ChunkyMonkeysMum · 18/09/2009 21:37

Thanks 2010Dad, and congratulations.....you must be so excited.

I hope you manage to get it right first time with your pushchair.

I had a clunky beautiful travel system for DS when he was born, all mink and cream, suede-like. I used to stroke it

He was so cosy and snug in it that when I gently hit a bar going through the park gate with his older sister, he slid past the straps right down into the padded foot-muff and disappeared from view.

I then had a McLaren Quest which was good but I gave it to my sister when I decided that I really needed a 3-wheeler. I don't know why. For an entire year I battled with the shiteness that is the Zia Petite Star but now he's bigger I have and love this.

Lovely grey / black / silver colours and very lightweight.

bronze · 18/09/2009 22:13

I have had 3
The first was inherited and didn't even last ds1 befor eit fell apart. We then got a cheap stroller. after that we bought a more solid lay flat stroller for ds2 which we also used for dd. We would use it for ds3 but he prefers the sling.

We must have spent about £100 in total for 4 kids worth of pushchair. I just don't see the point in wasting money

TheLadyEvenstar · 18/09/2009 23:37

I was just trying to think of the prams i have had..I will try and list them all..

Graco 3 wheeler (never used it changed mind and sold it)
another 3 wheeler with car seat and carry cot in burgundy, but then found out i was having ds so sold it as needed another colour.
Graco travel system used for 4 weeks and sold it
then I bought an older style pram off of a wonderful lady on here which I used for a while until i wanted needed a new one and gave that to a young girl i know who was having a baby.
Emmaljunga 2-1 pram which i fell in love with and dp bought me for £800 a small amount used it for agesssssssssss sold it for £180.
Micralite fastfold sold it after 6 uses
Bruin buggy sold it after 4 uses
urban detour still have it
Graco metro sport still have it
Loola still have it but hate it
aria gave it to someone
another loola in diff colour but sold it
Maclaren but hated it!

Thats all I can remember in the way of names lol. and now am on lookout for another one.

bronze · 18/09/2009 23:38

Please tell me you have have more than one child

TheLadyEvenstar · 18/09/2009 23:40

Bronze yes I have 2.....
but i didn't even go into the ones i had 11 yrs ago for ds1, They are just some of the ones I have had for ds2 in 2 yrs.

Alambil · 18/09/2009 23:48

I had 3 pushchairs / prams for DS but if it had been under MY control, I'd have had 1!

My ex forced me to have 2 utterly unsuitable ones (two that I couldn't change) and so when I left him, I changed it to the one I wanted!

Pikelit · 19/09/2009 03:11

If you've little else to clutter your head and plenty of money to waste then who am I to say YABU in buying multiple "travel systems".

I had a McLaren fold-up which had been through 2 families and finally collapsed after 2 years hard labour in ours. But hey, we lived in a cardboard box too...

(Another old gimmer)

SomeGuy · 19/09/2009 16:39

We've had five I think.

  • A Mothercare 3 wheeler that was second hand when we bought it and fell apart.

  • An Argos £20 job

  • A Mamas & Papas Pliko Pramette 'travel system', which turns out to be far too bulky and basically completely ridiculous once your child reaches about 6 months

  • A Petite Star Zia, which I bought because I thought tiny folding-size and lightweight were the be-all and end-all. Turns out it's cheaply constructed and has wheels that are a total bugger to push over anything other than road or pavement.

  • Mountain Buggy Terrain - expensive, but much better quality than all the others, including the M&Ps which cost about the same. Great but probably not suitable if you have a small car boot.

SomeGuy · 19/09/2009 16:42

It is impossible to get it right first time, because every pram has a different selling point that looks great at first sight. When you have a baby, it's tempting to go for something that's marketed to cosset a small baby, including car seat accesories and so on, but it won't be long before you realise your mistake....

ChunkyMonkeysMum · 19/09/2009 17:22

What really annoys me is that a lot of the pushchairs I like seem to be "web exclusive only" and not sold in-store so I can't go and try them out! That doesn't help at all when you are trying to see whether it is suitable or not.

ChunkyMonkeysMum · 19/09/2009 22:33

TheLadyEvenstar - Did you show the pics to your DH ?
I will be listing the pushchair on eBay as soon as my new one arrives, so if you do want to buy it, let me know asap.

Chunky, SORRY!!! I lost the thread. DP says it is not going to be any good for fishing trips etc. sorry for leaving you hanging around!

FimboFortuna · 23/09/2009 11:48

I had loads of prams for ds, but mainly because I don't drive and walk everywhere. The wheels either fell off or wore down or the footrest snapped off.
