As a mum of a 2yr old boy and 10mnth old girl, (15 mnth age gap) next year we were planning on buying them a cooker to share, and to my HORROR elc now does it in blue OR pink NO unisex option!!! I don't want there expensive wooden red one, the plastic noisy kids paradise looking thing is the one ds is obsessed with!!!

they have a lovely multi color one of display but you cant buy that one

I am coming across this constantly, go to buy pop up tents for ds and can only find pink or blue, I DON'T WANT TWO SETS!!!!

and it continues, Even the elc whizz around garage is now in pink!!!

Its nice sometimes but enough is enough, keep the unisex PLEASE!!!

Before ELC brought the pink things out, the blue and red was the unisex colour.

I think it's OK for girls and boys and know lots of girls with the blue and red kitchen/easel etc.

Their Mums refused to buy the pink things on the grounds that they were far too sickly

i just feel that the blue one seems unfair as beanie will undoubtedly decide pinks amazing and she will be stuck with a blue and red cooker when ds turns all boyish! think i may just give up on elc and look at little tikes or step 2

ds2 has a gorgeous pink buggy he pushes his dolly round in. and he has a lovely kitchen but that blue....

he is also sporting a lovely pair of pj's tonight with dalmation spot trousers and a red top with a dalmation on with glittery thread around it......

my ds has a buggy and a pink and orange doll, im not bothered by the girls toys in general its just that everywhere is turning the pink for girls blue for boys into a huge marketing scam!!! lets be honest the VAST majority will be sucked into buying blue and pink, but i wont, ive found a kitchen coloured kitchen, worried ds will turn nose up, he loves elc, maybe we will have to put a wanted add on every board i can find for the old multi coloured one! argh going round in circles here

Thanks for the clock links... this is the one I wanted as it teaches the past/to etc and it'd really help dyspraxic DS I think... but they only stock this one!

I hate having to pay online delivery for something they should stock instore!

TheLadyEvenstar · 18/09/2009 23:39

Beanie, try Freegle (formerly freecycle, if you ask nicely I will put an add on my group as I am the owner lol)

beaniesinthebucketagain · 18/09/2009 23:39

i completely agree, and you cant ask them to get it in store any more either!!!

YANBU. There are so many colours other than blue and pink that could be used, aren't there?

claw3 · 19/09/2009 01:21

Who says pink is for girls and blue is boys anyhow? When mine were younger they couldnt care less what colour toys were.

My 13 year old son wears pink t-shirts and i dont think he is gay.

In this day and age, why is it still legal for toy retailers to divide products into "boys" and "girls" sections, like the ELC website here where you can search on "gender"?

my girl would rather die than wear pink.

it wudda been nice to see her in a dress occasionally if i'm honest.

historically pink was a MANS colour apparently

Tinfoil · 19/09/2009 01:45

So it does lockets, I hadn't seen that! Wonder what they think the point of the search is, then.

Hamleys have a "Toy Finder" where you can search on "gender". If you click "girls" you do get trains on the first page. However looking at the number of products it looks as if over 250 of the toys would only appear in the boys' section, and over 300 are deemed only suitable for girls.
