itunes?

Thats it really. For years I resisted the urge to buy one and made do with simple mp3 players that you simply dragged and dropped the music on.

Last month I sucumbed and bought a nano, and god do I hate it. Dp plugged it into his work computer big mistake - it knacked everything, and had to be reformatted.

I'm trying to burn some songs to cd for our wedding but jesus you would think I was trying to re-write the laws of physics.

Arghhhhhhh

My itunes are on external hard drive too.

OK this is on the Windows version of iTunes...

  1. From the Edit Menu select Preferences
  2. Select the Advanced Tab
  3. The General Tab should already be selected, if not select it.
  4. There is a check box labelled "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library", select it.
  5. I'd also recommend selecting the check box labelled "Keep iTunes Music folder organised". However doing so will lead to the file name changing when iTunes makes it own copy, though I don’t think that's a problem.

Click on "OK" and exit the menus, if I've got it right the next time you drag a file into iTunes from your external disk drive it should be copied into iTunes. You should be able to unplug the external disk and the tune should still play.

Itunes is terrible (all of Apple's WIndows software is). DW has an iphone and I've told her that she can't install itunes on my PC, because it will fuck it up.

There are also far too many rules with itunes, you can't do what you like with your own music, I've bought software for the iphone and then reinstalled PC and got replacement Iphone (due to screen damage) and it's money down the toilet.

Itunes is also a total rip-off. You could buy a CD like this:

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00005TO20/

for £8 with 48 tracks on, which you can re-sell, copy to your MP3 player etc., or pay Itunes about £50 for the same.

I use www.alltunes.com/

One possible thing you'd miss out on is that a lot of equipment is coming out which you can put an iPod into (iPod dock is usual description), so whether it's a good quality hi-fi amplifier costing 300 to 500, or a moderate priced radio {FM + DAB + internet radio} that supports USB or memory card, it is quite likely to have an iPod dock to play audio from that (and sometimes the amplifier / radio has a remote control which will control the iPod too).

Just the other day I saw a 19" LCD TV/monitor which has DVD player and iPod dock (about 120 quid) and nearer to 20 quid, a unit consisting of a couple of speakers and audio amplifier that the iPod slides into so it plays the music and can charge the iPod up at same time.

I have a 1 GB player with FM radio (and it was about a tenner including delivery).
