Partner purposely over-feeding my cat

My partner moved in with us in June and he always found it hilarious that my cat was overweight. I laughed along at first and told him to make the most of it as she was on a diet and would soon lose the weight.

So I dramatically reduced her food and I couldn't understand why she seemed to be getting even bigger. I caught DD feeding her one day and asked her not to anymore as that was why she was so fat as 2 different people were feeding her at different times. She swore she'd not fed her that often but I assumed she must have done.

Anyway a few days later I got up and there was cat food all over the kitchen floor. I assumed the cat must have somehow got into the cupboard and knocked the box over. I then found the cat stretched out in the porch looking quite ill. She must have eaten loads. Her belly was all swollen. DD swore she hadn't done it.

A few days after that I'd fed her at 7am and at 8am I saw DP sprinkling cat food down at the back of the garden. I asked him why he was feeding the cat and he said he hadn't realised she'd been fed. I assumed he was telling the truth but then I caught him feeding her again at 9pm. I also found little piles of cat food all over the house. The cat by this time was massive, couldn't run properly and had trouble jumping and climbing etc.

I sat dp and DD down and asked everyone not to feed the cat as she could end up quite ill. DD got upset and said I was blaming her, DP looked a bit uncomfortable but said nothing.

Anyway I think he's still doing it as the cat is still getting fatter, I keep finding cat food all over and the box of cat biscuits is going down far too quickly. I also found empty tins of cat meat in the recycle bin (she's not even supposed to be eating that so he must have bought it himself).

Why would he do this?? I just don't understand the point.

What about ds have you aske dhim if he is feeding the cat?

dogonpoints · 16/09/2009 17:53

maybe he is a feeder

Even if you are not feeding her, his attitude is completely hazardous to your cat's health.

As for him being an 'animal lover' I would take that with a sack of salt.

Does he feel jealous of your cat? He might want the cat out of your life so he no rival.

He seems not to be thinking properly, if he can hear your request not to feed the cat but continue to do so.

I'd be with 'Roomfor2' that you need to be rid of your partner for the sake of your cat, and your DD.

Unfortunately, since a cat is likely to eat whatever is available, he could still leave food even if not living with you.

oooops 'so he has no rival'

Why would you be sprinkling cat food in the back garden? An I've never heard of a cat so greedy tbh (and mine take the biscuit) this has to be a troll methinks......

duelingfanjo · 17/09/2009 13:44

Are you sure it's not your daughter? I mean absolutely positive?

SomeGuy · 17/09/2009 13:56

It could be your son OP.

WebDude · 17/09/2009 13:56

AnitaBlake - the OP had not sprinkled food...

He moved in with you in June. I'd suggest you move him back out again. His actions are deliberate and disturbing.
