To be fed up with Barnaby the Sodding Bear aka Mum's Homework!!!!!!!!

So dtwins were in rec last year and they bought said bear home 3 Xs each if I remember correctly. So that's 6 nights of trying to give Barnaby a good time in order for him to have a vaguely interesting diary.

Accompanying 3 grumpy kids home, watching them stuff cookies whilst watching Oggy and the Cockroaches does not an interesting diary make.

Having to take, download photos and extract something drawn/written out of a 5 year old boy to liven up Barnaby's diary after a day at school is no mean feat.

The one time we had Barnaby for the weekend and were actually doing something interesting (train, boat and double decker in London along with a trip to Tate Modern) we forgot him!!!! Dp was gutted as he wanted a pic of Barnaby floating down the Thames.

Anyhow 2nd week of term and guess who gets the 1st go with Barnaby's older brother Barnaby the bear who hangs out in Y1 yes that's right dtwin1. I was the mother getting all the sympathetic glances whose heart sank as her son came racing out with an extra rucksack.

So last night I was up until midnight trying to download photos of Barnaby errrr eating cookies and watching Oggy again This was after an evening of dtwin 2 winging because he hadn't got Barnaby and all 3 dc fighting over him. Anyhow I get up in the morning only to find dp has already written Barnaby's diary and there is no way it can be sent to school if you get my drift,it may have been funny 9 o'clock last night but at 8 o'clock this morning I was not best pleased. So I quickly re-write it and manage to get a picture out of dtwin1 only to find he's now bonded with Barnaby and is in floods of tears as he doesn't want him to go back. Manage to gently prize him off it in order to ram him back in his rucksack. Get to school(dtwin1 has gone from sobbing to quiet sniffing by this time),then foolishly warn the teacher that handover might be tricky only for her to reassure dtwin that she'll make sure he has him back soon noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The best bit is dd has just started rec this year so by my calculation we'll be having Barnaby and co 9 times this year-yay!!!!

My Barnaby puppet is the genuine article, with his name embroidered on his paws. Just in case he falls out of a bar somewhere and can't remember his name.

Maybe I should get my name embroidered on my paws...

OtterinaSkoda just incase you want to sing the rest...

Birds taught me to sing,
When they took me to their king,
First I had to fly,
In the sky, so high, so high, so high, so high, so high.
So if you want to sing this way,
Think of what you'd like to say,
Add a tune and you will see,
Just how easy it can be.

Why can I remember such drivel?

We only had barnaby once in two children going through infants school. Probably because the one time we did have them Barnaby had to write 'My diary was stolen by naughty twins who hid it it in their bedroom for a week'

We did have Shelly the giant african snail THREE times in a term though. I was terrified I was going to kill the bloody thing and was checking on it every half hour. It tried to make a break fro freedom once while cleaning out the tank. Got itself wedged firmly on the edge of the glass side, refused to let go and we couldnt get the lid back on. Ds is in Shelly's class this year. Anyone for escargot?

We haven't had the bear at all yet. I think everyone else had him in reception last year but I suspect the school have recognised me for the type of mother who would lose the bear. Possibly because on his first day DS was allowed to bring in the soft toy and it took me nearly a week to get it back home, I kept dropping it in the car park or leaving it sitting near the door of DS's classroom.

Thanks all,got some great suggestions to fill Mr B's diary next time round.

The face down on the bed having a strop one was my personal favourite, will most definitely be included.

My son has just started reception and tells me that there is a stuffed dragon that might be coming home with him for the weekend.

My husband is a bit of a whizz with Photoshop. We're going to send it to the moon.

oh joy- my eldest 2 are well past this but i have to admit to my shame-

we had the sodding thing when DD2 was in reception and LOST it. I mean really, really LOST IT. Left it on a train and never came back.

OMG the shame- this was 5 years ago and it is all coming back to me.. the trauma.

Both of mine refused to ever have the BB replacement.

However, evilstar had a large chuckle when BB2 was taken to Australia by deputy head, who broke her arm when falling backwards down steps trying to get a picture of the little fecker at the Sydney Opera House.

Now that still makes me laugh to this day, so i have started the day with a healthy mic of shame and evil wicked joy!

who thought the idea up in the first place?
