i would complain, they have a responsibility to keep the area clean and to remove pests.

Just tell the council - they probably didn't put them there, but they should take them away. If they don't do it quickly, then complain and/or report it to the press.

yes report it to them, that's really dirty and not acceptable! I agree with the other posters though you don't really have to complain but politely let them know ASAP

Tell the council, they'll be pleased to have the report I think, they are generally v good at sending people out for pest control, isn't there even a reality TV series about this?

Real health hazard... Tell the council. If they don't act PDQ i'd make a real fuss.

I wouldn't be seen for dust, i am terrified of rats.

Another vote for telling the council. It could be a long job to clear the playground though. Children drop food.............

Don't know how they will get rid of them though.They normally put down rat poison but couldn't do that there Rats are evrywhere.

Rats live outside, the play area is outside, there will be rats in the play area. You can report it but not sure what can be done. What is odd is that they came in to the play area when people were there.

Rats are getting very very bold these days. They are very intelligent and have good memories. They have twigged that they have no reason to fear people.

In my part of North London the council will no longer deal with them - you have to pay a private company. Hence the massive increase in the local rat population. They used to be nocturnal creatures, now I see them running through peoples' gardens on my way to work in the morning.

It is extremely worrying, when you think of the diseases they carry.

Report it. Rats carry serious diseases. They should be able to put down rat bait in containers which kids can't get into - rat goes in, eats, leaves and expires later.

Of course if only they'd allow dogs into the play area the problem would soon be sorted

I wonder if the fortnightly bin collections (if they have them where you live ) are causing an increase.

i have never seen a wild rat- and would be very scared if i'd seen them in the park!! Hope the council manage to sort it out asap.
