In thinking Arabella Weir and her DD's purple protractor has no place on the R4's Today programme?

Terrorists being convicted, US health reform, yes.
But who cares about a mother's woes ... I can come on mumsnet for that.

Why on earth is she sending her daughter to this state school?

She said she'd move out of London if Boris won the Mayoralty - she didn't - clearly she prefers to indulge her ideological games with her daughter's education instead.

Silly cow.

SomeGuy · 08/09/2009 22:50

Judging from that I'd say that the chances her daughter will still HAVE a protractor in a few weeks are slim.

MissisBoot · 08/09/2009 22:58

Especially as she's also sent her daughter there with a satchel

SomeGuy · 08/09/2009 23:01

I'm amused by her comments here:

' At least private schools don't give you these choices ? au contraire, private schools are your first stop if you want to swerve the options maelstrom. Every single item, even down to hairbands, is prescribed. Along with your hefty bill you'll get a detailed list of what your child is to wear (including in their hair) and carry. That's partly why people choose private education ? someone will tell you what to do at all times.'

'But where are my how-to-produce-a-winner instructions? I want her to go to a socially mixed comprehensive, but does that mean I should allow her to choose a socially mixed handbag that bears absolutely no resemblance to the schoolbag doubtless sported by all high achievers? Did Kirsty Wark take a "this season's must-have patent faux leather squishy holdall" into school? '

Like most of the rest of the media, Kirsty Wark had a private education "Kirsty Wark was educated at Kilmarnock Grammar Primary and subsequently Ayr's independent Wellington School".

Learning to adapt to the appropriate street wear for the streets of Haringay does not, surprisingly enough, equip you particularly well for a job presenting Newsnight.

madlentileater · 08/09/2009 23:06

YANBU shockingest was the 'I haven't a clue what a protracator is for' remark. And so bloody what if it's purple....I am pretty humourless when it comes to stationery fripperies but a purple protractor seems completely fine to me.

LauraIngallsWilder · 08/09/2009 23:09

I am that anyone could speak on Radio4 and giggle because they dont know what a protractor is

Ignorant guests, pointless discussion topic

SomeGuy · 08/09/2009 23:10

This is where Kirsty Wark's school requires you to purchase its uniform:

Habbibu · 08/09/2009 23:13

Most protractors I've seen are blue-ish.

I couldnt resist having a nose

Utterly awful uniform

SomeGuy · 08/09/2009 23:15

Here she is spouting off: news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_8243000/8243362.stm

silly, silly woman.

FFS, she's sending her child to a rather rough school with a 'Satisfactory' from Ofsted. She's got more things to worry about than the colour of her protractor.

policywonk · 08/09/2009 23:17

It's not quite true that only the women presenters get tortured on Today - I'm sure I heard Evan Davis completely fucking up an item about the Arctic Monkeys or something quite recently.

Let's hope this 'skateboarding duck' tendency gets firmly stamped on now that the silly season's over.

Habbibu · 08/09/2009 23:17

But back to the point - yes, the Today programme should really, really be above this.

On a related-ish point - did I really hear on Woman's Hour that guides can now get a badge in Party Planning?

Habbibu · 08/09/2009 23:28

oh Lord - I did. that just depresses me.

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 08/09/2009 23:30

Missed it. But would have shared indignation.

Mostly though, had to post to applaud Dostoy-effing-evsky. I love that. And will steal at every opportunity.

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 08/09/2009 23:32

Oh yes. Did hear the WH Guides thing. No fecking wonder they all want to join the Scouts I concurred. It is on the same scale of Crimes Against Gender Equality as those adverts for Running My House is my Dream Dream Dream. Only very slightly mitigated by Running My Shop &c.
