To be annoyed at this?....school uniform issue

Dc's went back to school this morning and i happened to notice that a child in ds's class was not wearing the required uniform.

The required uniform is grey trouser/skirt/pinifore/shorts, white shirt/blouse and burgandy sweatshirt/cardigan with or without logo.

Last year the girl and younger sister(in DD's class) wore grey cardigans with grey trousers and skirts.

This morning i noticed the older girl wearing Black jumper and black cut off trousers. (didn't see the younger girl)

The school is quite particular about long hair being tied back/correct shoes/ colour coded pe kit etc so am not sure how this is being allowed.

I have tried to come up with a logical explanation but have failed.

It's not as if the school colours are not readily available and budget should not be an issue as i bought all uniforms on a limited budget this year and have managed school requirements.
I don't know why this bothers me so much but i have been stewing silently all day. Would you contact the head or is that taking it too far?

this would upset me too, every summer I would go without, borrow what I could to make sure my kids didn't stand out and had correct, adequate and nice uniform. It may not have been new or from M & S but my kids looked well turned out

It's prob someone who doesn't believe in uniform and is therefore making a stand through their children

Uniform may not be compulsory but the school can refuse a place to someone not willing to wear the uniform, I found this out when our school had a problem with white piedro boots (shoes for disabled child) They wanted her in black, she hadn't outgrown the summer ones, they could ask us to leave the school (state, not private)

I would speak to the head

There is a child in dd's class who always wears navy skirt and jumper. The uniform states grey and royal blue. Her mum (a friend) works in Asda and gets the items for pennies so she can't see why she should spend more for the correct colours and I can see her point. The school hasn't made a fuss either.

millenniumfalcon · 07/09/2009 14:48

lol laurie, yes that sounds like the only answer to me

DaisymooSteiner · 07/09/2009 14:48

You need a hobby.

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/09/2009 14:48

Madness reigns on mumsnet.

Tell the head. Jesus, as if she would care. She owuld just make soothing noises and go and tell the staff room about the loon over-concerned parent who patently doesn't have anything else to think about!

Lol Laurie - "have you considered taking up early afternoon drinking?"

Deeeja · 07/09/2009 14:52

Well have you considered that they may have some sort of asd traits. My 6 year old has asd and has to be gradually introduced to wearing full uniform, usually takes about a month. This morning he went to school in grey trousers (uniform), trainers (non-uniform), and stripy top(non-uniform). He also refused to remove his jacket and hat, which he will probably wear for the whole week.
I guess you would have issues with him too.
But it is better that he goes to school, uniform is not a priority for me.

This is a mild complaint. DC's Head never ever authorises holidays in term time. THis is a great source of complaint in the play ground (with parents). One teacher has taken a 3 month career break to travel (recently married). Parents are now saying if she can have 3 months off they can take their children to Benidorm in term time. Loons everywhere I look!! How on earth can you compare the two?

BarbieLovesKen · 07/09/2009 14:53

I wish to God that I had that little to worry about in my life that I would/ could silently stew over this..

Very silly imo, but you already know that so has to be forgiven.

DaisymooSteiner · 07/09/2009 17:52

The head's got eyes hasn't he/she? I'm guessing she might not need it pointing out then....

LauraIngallsWilder · 07/09/2009 17:57

LilTulip - you definately need an absorbing hobby

I can reccomend knitting
Canoeing is fun too (if you are feeling active)

Trip trap troll

piscesmoon · 07/09/2009 17:59

I think that the Head can notice for herself!
The poor DCs have probably just got a mother who wants them to be 'free spirits' and have to live with the daily embarrassment of her choice -without someone else drawing attention to them!

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 07/09/2009 18:05

Our head is really strict but what annoys me is my son gets told of for his tie being 1cm too short but Johnny gets away with bright red trainers and Jenny has a tie completely made up of a massive knot and an inch of tie.

YAstillBU though.

As a teacher this child will probably have to have put up with comments such as ' wheres your uniform Jonny, no burgundy jumper today etc ' at my school all the staff would comment, but we cant force the issue. The kids tend to grind the parents down in the end as they get fed up with the comments. Dont think it hasnt been noticed, it will have been. Be glad you dressed your child correctly so they can relax and enjoy school

Hulababy · 07/09/2009 18:13

It is for school to chase up. The teachers will notice and if they feel the need they will speak to the parents.

A state primary however cannot insist on uniform generally.

Sorry not been back for a bit, had stuff to do in my non exsistant life.

I am definitly not a troll and probably never explained my self very well.

When i said about going to see the head,it wasn't to tell tales as suggested but to enquire as to whether variations in uniform were allowed. I didn't realise that uniform was not compulsory in primary school. Was led to believe that it was.

If i had have known this would not have stressed in making sure uniform was worn every day...especially when washing machine broke down.

Yes i do agree that it's not anything to do with me and suppose i was annoyed because i felt one rule for one and another rule for everyone else...but you are right not worth gettting knickers in a twist about. and i think stewing was probably the wrong word it was annoying me and i suppose i did make myself sound like a nut job as normally i don't give a shit what anyone else does ...so i hold my hands up, momentarily had a lapse in insanity.

I am really not a Fruitcake!! ....Honest
