to feel like the teenage dog sitter is taking the piss

We have a 14 year old who lives nearby and when we are away one weekend each month (by neccesity) he walks our two dogs. They live out in a kennel by day and are brought into the house laast thing at night. It wasn't always the way, they did used to be in all day but they are sometimes prone to bouts of incontinence in their old age and it was all i could take to come home after the weekend to find shit literally everywhere because said teenager couldn't clean up properly.

So previously to make his job easier we said spend time at our house doing homework or watching tv if you like so the dogs have company and you can give them the time they need to do their poos etc but now he really doesn't need to be here at all and without saying that exact phrase u have given very exact instructions about what he needs to do.

SO to cut a long story short, he gats 15 quid a daywhich i think is very fair. Thats 40 quid for his weekend. Anyway first weekend i came home to find empty beer can in shower and reports from nieghbours that his pal was up on our roof 'playing a game?'
Had words with teen that this was not on.

Now when i came home i've opened laptop to find he has been on here chatting to folk and christ knows what else. I feel given its a personal laptop with lots of personal stuff on it he shouldn't have helped his self. It was closed and switched off when i left.

I'm well pissed off, AIBU?

dont use him and kennel your dogs at proper kennels (cant be much more than £40 for weekend)

Have you considered finding some lovely kennels? Our dog is very anxious but loves his-he has a pal to sleep with plays all day and charms the staff.
Oh YANBU about the teenager

lisa wouldn't kennel them as one is 15 and gets really upset in kennels, feel less upseting for them to be home. Also one of them can't travel in car without shitting all over it. Not pleasant as its a BIG dog.

He's 14. You're lucky that he's not having parties! Seriously though, he's perhaps too young for this job. Find someone else would be my advice.

He is a young 14 and we live very rurally so he would have a tough job finding enough people around here to call it a party!

I would have welcomed an easy job earning myself 15 quid a day for pretty much two hours work max. (4 x 20 min walks plus feeding them)

Oh well he can kiss his pocket money goodbye!

Have a word with his parents too.
He may well be far too young for this responsibility. 14 on his own let loose in your house for a few hours

i did ask his parents before offering him the job. I asked did they mind, was he capable and were they sure it wouldn't interfere with his school work.

I do get the impression they are quite lax.

DIdn't get very far with messenger, couldn't get to grips with the teen speak

agree with first bit of advice (don't use him) but disagree with second bit (use kennels).

Good dog sitters are a superior alternative to kennels imo. I'm lucky in that my cleaner house sits and dog sits (have employed her for 7 years and she is trusted)..but there is an association which dog sitters can register with if you google ... also your vets might know of people who do it (sometimes their staff do it privately to make extra money)

hmc thanks. We are in the middle of no where. There is a vets about 40 min drive from here but feel its too far for anyone to be local.

I do see a doggy walking van going around and i may enquire about them.

Its a pity as he is very capable with my dogs, one of whom is very big and strong and my little 15 yo dog likes him too and she can be wary of strangers.

I'm so dissapointed. He is a neighbour too and i feel i have to say to his mum which may make things a bit awkward.I do have a feeling she may think its not a big deal.

You could twist the story a little so as not to offend and just say something about their age needing someone with medical knowledge (or some such bollocks) if you go with the van people that would be understandable.
(btw, how is £15 a day £40?? )

He has to do the last two walks on the friday night as we go away late afternoon friday back sunday evening so we give him 15 quid for the full days and £5 per walk on the not full days iykwim! It is easy money. He has dogs of his own so he walks them anyway. OUr dogs being elderly and arthritic only need a very short walk but often, but know more than a couple of hours work per day. Silly boy, i'd do the job myself for the extra cash. Thats half my food shopping for a week.
