to not want a padded bra for 32a dd?

dd has just been fitted for bras- bless. We got a couple of very plain white ones (more like a couple of small hankies stuck together!) and I thought for her birthday next week (she'll be 13) I'd get her a couple of coloured ones, as opposed to "under school blouse" ones.
Popped to Tesco's this morning but all they had were underwired and padded ones- now I don't think padded is appropriate for dd. Or AIBU, and an oldfashioned old biddy?
Where can I get some pretty ones please?

hmmm...why do you feel they are inappropriate? I mean padding is not necessary about making boobs larger looking is it....I personally prefer padded ones, because my nipples are showing through my clothes otherwise...
I only have boys though, so, never really thought about it much...

dd (aged 12) really likes the padded ones.. she is about a 32a, sigh, but that is what she likes.

Underwired is ott imo, but padded isn't so bad simply because is stops your nipples from being quite so prominent if you get chilly. In a way padded could be more demure than unpadded, iyswim.

Never thought of that- and really it's to stop nipples being prominent she needs a bra!

I think it's more a question of whether it's suitable for a 13 year old to wear a padded bra rather than a padded 32a being the problem. My first padded bra was a 32a Wonderbra but I was 17! I don't think I'd feel comfortable with my DD wearing a padded bra when she's 13 but that's just me. YANBU.

but the padding doesnt add that much though, perhaps it is for comfort and discretion. and any way - if they want to be larger at 12/13 why shouldnt they? isnt it natural?

I always find padded ones more comfy and I hate non wired bras I am a f cup so the padding is def not about looking larger I just find them more supportive and I wouldn't have thought they will make that much difference to your dd size. Definetely primark for pretty bras also at your dd age I was already a c cup and I never got more attention than the other girls so I doubt a padded bra will draw her to much attention if you are worried about that.

Thin padding is probably ideal, rather than a balconette Wonderbra sort of 'padded bra'.

I remember the small boobed dilemma of needing to wear a bra to fit in with other girls/cover up nipples, but not actually needing one.

I'd get your DD whatever she likes, its sooo horrible feeling body/puberty conscious. When I was at school you got teased for having no boobs and for wearing a padded bra, I was never going to win. Still, 20 years later, I'm not bitter. Oh no, not me. And at least they haven't sagged much after 2 pregancies and countless years of breastfeeding.

It's not inappropriate for a 13 year old to have bigger boobs that 32a, most do. Let her fit in.

Have a look at M&S. I got some 30A Angel bras for DD (12) last week. I was initially a bit about the padding, but she is going into Yr8, ALL of her friends have developed while she is still at the ironing board stage, so I can understand her desire to at least look like she is keeping up with her friends in the development stakes. And they had a 3 for 2 offer as well...

Do you mean padded as in Wonderbra, or moulded foam?

IMO moulded foam is fine - it is much more concealing and does not particularly enhance size. The underwire I do have more problems with - there isn't any point in wearing a wire until she has finished growing and can get properly fitted.

Also, aim for beige/pink shades rather than white, as white shows up way more under a school shirt.

i think I always equate padded with the "Hello Boys" ads from years ago.
She can choose what she wants. Tbh, as long as it's a bra, she couldn't care less.

It definitely depends on the type of padding (says she who spent her school years in her sisters hand me down wonderbras) nipple coverage padding is ok, but for a 13 year old cleavage enhancing padding is a bit OTT.

Re. underwire be careful of this, I read a thing a while ago that underwires can damage delicate, developing breast tissue, absolutely not recommended for young girls.

Re. what someone else said, yes I think there is a difference between padding which will make a less developed girl look more like her mates and padding which is designed to make you look breasty in a more sexualised way if you see what I mean. At that age you don't want to stick out for being ahead or behind in the development stakes.

My DD prefers plain white, because then you can't see the pattern/flowers/spots, etc through her clothes.

It is hard to find teen bras which are discreet under clothes, which is just silly.

I was looking for some cheap non-wired moulded bras in the Angel section at M&S for myself (not blessed by the tit fairy) and they do seem to have a lot of loud prints - not great for under a school shirt, I agree. However, white bras are very evident under white clothes.

Calvin Klein do an excellent non-wired moulded bra in plain beige which I love, you can get them from Figleaves.

I don't know if they do them in an age-appropriate range but t-shirt bras are good - they have the extra thickness (for the concealment of nipples) but without the padding. I agree, it does seem a bit much (but then I had my first wonderbra at 13...knew I was never going to be blessed in that area...!)
