everytime we go shopping she always wants an iggle piggle tshirt or upsey daisy wellies that kind of thing.

personally i don't really like them that much

however

on one hand she would love them.

on the other she might start being a nightmare if say i brought her one or two things, only wanting them on and i can see it causing trantrums, as she does has some uspey daisy jimjams which she hates taking off, so she hasn't worn them for a while.

Yep - they're the ones peachy as it Was £1.80.

have you used them before - so they wash OK??

MorrisZapp · 28/08/2009 13:49

When my nephew was 2 he got new slippers with Thomas the Tank Engine on them. He wouldn't take them off at bedtime and my DB had to compromise by putting a chair right beside his bed, and put the slippers on there so that DN could look at them as he fell asleep.

Awwwwwwww! So cute.

Let him have the hideous stuff. It's only for a few short years.

glasjam · 28/08/2009 14:04

Pre-children I always vowed I would never let any child of mine dress in character clothing - always thought it looked quite tacky. Had visions of little striped pyjamas like the boy in the Snowman. Now I have 2 children and whilst I still baulk at buying them myself, my DS is the possessor of a variety of Dr Who, Spiderman, Batman, Scooby Doo pyjamas (mostly bought by my other half who is less of a snob when it comes to this issue )

My little girl showed an interest in Hello Kitty the other day in M&S but has no idea who she is.

I absolutely draw the line at character bedding though. Yuk! Wonder how long it'll be before that makes it way into the house??

MorrisZapp · 28/08/2009 14:05

Character bedding is only the beginning. Do not look in the Argos catalogue children's bedroom section if you have a sensitive disposition

twirlymum · 28/08/2009 14:08

BornToFolk, I am intrigued!
What is your surname????

CarrieDababi · 28/08/2009 14:08

oh bloody heck, i let her wear the itng jimjams for bed last nite and shes still got them on! when i tried to take them of this morning all hell broke loose.
she was runing off and diving everywhere trying to get away.

i had to take her out this am so i just put a jumper on over the top!

so to the people that let their children have the charater jimjms do they let you get them undressed in the morning?

i'm not too worried about the cost if it makes dd happy, just the trantums i can't be doing with.

i really think if i got her a couple of bits, she will give me hell when its time to take them off

glasjam, there are ways LOL..... pop a badge or transfer onto the reverse side of a duvet cover, or on the bottom pillow; that often is enouhj IYSWIM

the transfers generally wash OK if you keep them washed on a cool wash. useful for ds3 as he has SN so likes things usually considered too young for hsi age (so ITNG, Peppa, Dora etc)

lljkk · 28/08/2009 14:41

Is it so bad if she wears her jimjams all day? I'm a big fan of choosing your battles, btw .

This is my take:
If you buy them things that they see in shops then they will never stop asking you to buy them stuff in shops; don't go there. Never impulse buy them anything.

However, stuff they need, you can (sometimes, as much as your budget allows) go specifically shopping together for -- then she can choose character versions for her shirt/cup/whatever needed.

And Xmas is coming, too. Christmas is when U do indulge.

CarrieDababi · 28/08/2009 14:55

i'm a fan of choosing battles too.

it;s not so bad if she in her jimjams all day, but she will need to take them off for washing at some point!

i don't go shopping very often, tend to order alot online, think i will avoid the shops as much as possible

it's not really about the budget for me,luckily we can afford a fair bit to spend on clothes, it's more about the tantrums, that she will have when if i start something like letting her.

OP posts:
lljkk · 28/08/2009 16:57

Get the PJs wet "by accident", Carrie (try to orchestrate it so that she thinks is was her own oversight to sit on that damp seat, etc.). If she's like most 2yos, she'll demand that you take them off instantly once they're the tiniest bit damp .

The tantrums thing is why we don't buy things together very often.

loopylil · 28/08/2009 18:02

mean. my father never let me have a my little pony or dolls etc all being dismissed as 'plastic shit' ooh the trauma still after all these years.... >crazily hugging a my little pony<

bless her, get her a second pair of upsey daisy jimjams it won't be the road to ruin im sure ... x

UniS · 28/08/2009 21:39

YANBU

2 yr olds don't have to rule what you buy.

piscesmoon · 28/08/2009 21:42

While they are little make the most of it and buy what you like-that phase won't last for long!

CarrieDababi · 28/08/2009 21:57

lljkk, good idea about getting them wet, but i'm afraid dd surpassed you!

dd didn't nap again today, i left her up there about an hour to give her a good try, she was moaning a bit, but not screaming her head off iykwim!

returned after an hour, admitted defeate she wouldn't nap, and what's she done?
taken her nappy off and smeared poo all over the walls!
omg

well at least i was able to get her sodding intg jimjams off her so i could bath her!

it is a bit mean.
but i'm still not going to let her!!

kitkatqueen · 28/08/2009 22:13

Ah sorry you had a rough day carrie, I tell my kids they can wear their jim jams 2 nights in a row if they put clean pants on so its easy getting them off in the morning by saying you can wear them again tonite.

Unfortunatly I may have just changed your thread into pants or no pants and thats been done a lot already.

curiositykilled · 28/08/2009 22:18

If she wants it I'm not sure why you'd ban it and hide it from her e.t.c. you'll just make her want it more.

CarrieDababi · 28/08/2009 22:25

thanks kitkat, but i don't class this as a bad day! lol

it was actually rather good!

who knows what tomorrow will bring though!

maybe when she's nolderni will be able to negociate with her more

OP posts:
kitkatqueen · 28/08/2009 22:33

Yea I thought that too

Bribery still works tho

CarrieDababi · 28/08/2009 22:35

bring on the bribes!

YANBU. I hate the branding/commercialisation of everything, so am avoiding them too. Having said that, DD is only 11 months and has no idea that characters even exist, so not very hard at the moment

I am also a complete hypocrite, as I realised the other day that I would be happy to buy her character stuff with Mr Men, Bagpuss, Muppet etc characters on them - so basically she's allowed characters from my childhood, just not from hers
