BitOfFun · 24/08/2009 15:35

Someguy- that link only proves it was a storm in a teacup, not a "PC Gorn Maad" event.

OrmIrian · 24/08/2009 15:39

Tis OK. They let me off with a caution. I must now avoid using the word 'blackboard' but am permitted to use 'chalkboard' or 'marker board'.

daftpunk · 24/08/2009 16:14

ps aitch;

if i wanted to cause trouble with this thread i would have worded the title completely differently...trust me.

i chose my words carefully because i'm genuinely tired of dealing with the hysterical of mumsnet.

daftpunk · 24/08/2009 16:33

MD....where are you taking me...?

agree lequeen..

OP posts:
choosyfloosy · 24/08/2009 16:34

Headline says ban... story says they are 'urging' and 'advising'.

I agree it's a waste of time in the context of all the other jobs there are to do and nobody's life is being made better by somebody in an office writing 'miserable day' instead of 'black day'.

But all political correctness is, is politeness. Institutionalised politeness is a bit weird, but i can think of worse things to happen in public life.

The PC brigade is exactly the same as the too posh to push brigade... i.e. nonexistent. Anyway the use of 'brigade' in a derogatory context is demeaning to the military.

choosyfloosy · 24/08/2009 16:38

unattractive, ranting, rather hirsute women with poor self image

hey that's ME!

and why shouldn't i have the right to get offended, even if i do have facial hair? Do you know what - you may find that one day YOU are unattractive and hairy - in the end it happened even to Elizabeth Taylor. You will still be a valuble human being with opinions, just also with a lot more tweezers.

i agree it's useful to know that, if anyone offers me a gentleman's agreement, i'm extremely likely to be about to get screwed. i guess that's what gentlemen and ladies do.

madameDefarge · 24/08/2009 16:39

LeQueen, are you also being rude about my moustache? are you insinuating I am not attractive? 'Tis cruel. I say, given that my already low self-esteem will be ground into dust by that..?

Tell you what, I'll retire to my chaise longue and fill my empty hours thinking up foolish ways in which people could be nicer to one another....

daftpunk · 24/08/2009 16:40

MD....you make me

OP posts:
madameDefarge · 24/08/2009 16:43

then, DP, my work is almost done.

Pikelit · 24/08/2009 16:52

One of the best articles that debunks all this tiresome "PC Brigade" bollocks is here...

here

...and yes, I realise that it is in the Guardian but for all that, it is FACTUAL. Unlike the rabble rousing tosh so beloved of the Daily Mail.

daftpunk · 24/08/2009 17:11

thanks for that pikelit

very interesting....

c'mon LeQueen, who are you really?

OrmIrian · 24/08/2009 17:35

Hmmm...she must be someone beautiful, good company and a fantastic cook. Or at least one of those three.

Oh and have no facial hair whatsoever.

madameDefarge · 24/08/2009 17:37

Jerry Hall? Franny Craddock? Edwina Curry?

daftpunk · 24/08/2009 17:38

actually, lequeen has raised some interesting points.... good looking people are happier than ugly people...are probably better paid and live longer...
