Driving back home from soft play with my nearly 4yo dd strapped safely in the back and my dear sis in law in the front. Was negotiating a horrible roundabout, being careful to get in right lane etc.....took the wrong exit and ended up on a dual carrigeway having to drive 2 miles before I could turn round !

In a bit of a flap becuase of this, went round roundabout on outside lane, so went onto dcway on the outside lane & was picking up speed to move over to inside.....looked in rear view mirror to see a complete arsehole right up my tail end - you know the type, boy racer who thinks he owns the road. Drove a bit further, accelerated a bit - so did he, so still right up my arse. Instinctively, to protect dd (as she cops it first if anyone goes into the back of me) went to pull into inside lane to let lunatic boy racer past, didn't see car coming up in my blind spot and nearly had a crash -just managed to swerve back into outside lane in time to avoid nasty accident.

Shaking like a leaf, dd crying, sis in law turned a funny shade of green - managed to pull over into inside lane when clear - only to see boy racer overtake me, look me straight in the eyes and LAUGH AT ME!!! What a lowlife - he nearly caused me to crash and kill us all and he has the audacity to laugh. What a f'ing b***d!!!!!!!!

I know I should have been more careful and sure it was safe to pull over, but I was in sheer panic that at any minute this t**t was going to shunt me from behind, he was that close. It makes me so mad when people do that, especially when it's obvious there's a child in the back (the seat can be seen above the window). Why are bloke drivers such knobheads?

Phew, just needed to vent.x.

I hate being tailgated in the fast lane when I'm doing 70....the highest speed I'm ALLOWED to go.

So I'll move over and they go zooming past me and I do think "oh I hope you crash"

KIMItheThreadSlayer · 22/08/2009 12:36

I am sure someone will end us scraping him off the road some time soon, and it will serve him right

sunangel88 · 22/08/2009 12:46

Hate tailgaters, but also hate middle lane hoggers on the motorway.

juneybean - If you are not over taking please stay on the leftmost lane...

steviesotherhalf · 22/08/2009 14:50

So sorry to hear of your near miss thanks to a complete tosspot. It's arsewipes like this that cause innocent people to perish. And as for laughing at you! If only the police were around when these things happen so they can throw the book at them - quite often they still get away with it though unfortunately.

My sister's friend from college was driving up the A2 to college in Rochester once in her little old Renault 5, when this complete psycho lorry driver her came up behind her and literally shunted her off the road onto the verge of the DC! The poor girl arrived at college shell shocked apparently and it traumatised her for some time. Of course the bastard got away with it!

It's very upsetting I know, but just thank your lucky stars you managed to stop a crash by your quick thinking.

Blackduck · 22/08/2009 15:34

was with dp once and wewere being tailgated (dp doing the speed limit), eventually dp able to let guy past and his kids flicked V's at us from the back window.....

Lizzylou · 22/08/2009 15:40

Was talking about this very thing with DH last night.
I was nearly hit yesterday by a twt in the opposite direction overtaking on a blind bend, I had to brake sharpish, cars behind, he was on his mobile phone as well. When I honked my horn, the passenger flipped the V's.
Luckily I didn't have the DS's with me, but my leg was shaking so much I had to pull over to compose myself. He only just missed me.
DH and I remembered loads of times between us where the other driver had behaved like a tw
t and then flicked the V's/swore/whatever and it was their fault.
So many nobbers on the road

MamazontheDailyMailtakingadump · 22/08/2009 15:49

there is no such thing as a fast lane.
the outer two lanes are for overtaking.
once you have overtaken you should move back to the inner most lane that is available.

It is not safe or good driving to drive in the outer lane at 70mph.

And whilst this man was tailgating whihc is wrong, You shouldn't be driving if your so freaked out by other motorists.
if someone is tailgating you pull over and let them pass.
He didn't cause you to almost crash, your nerves did.

yes he is indeed a cock for driving so aggressivly but if you are not confident on a duel carriageway to act appropriatel;y you really shouldn't be driving.

IMHO, which i know will get jumped on

MorrisZapp · 22/08/2009 16:39

Some men basically think that women shouldn't be on the road. It's the one arena in which they really still feel that they are the boss, and that if women can't take it they should let their husband drive.

What other explanation is there for the way some of these guys act? I've never seen a woman act like that on the roads.

Once in their little metal box, they can be as big a nob as they like and they feel untouchable, as they are the best driver in the world and beyond the law.

Makes my blood boil. I hate any kind of long drive - country roads, dual carriageways. There are hellbent aresholes everywhere, it's terrifying.

MorrisZapp · 22/08/2009 16:40

Arseholes, obv

juneybean · 22/08/2009 20:27

I was overtaking, but it doesn't stop people getting up my backside.

Chulita · 22/08/2009 20:54

I had a cyclist the other day coming the opposite direction turn right in front of me into a side road without indicating or slowing down, I was turning left into the same road, had my indicators on and had to slam the brakes on and he called me a 'fucking idiot' Freaking weaner, of course I only had to overtake him 10 feet down the road anyway, he just didn't want to stop With tailgaters I always slow right down, I'd rather they hit me at 20mph than 40...
Why is it young men think they have so much to prove and don't realise the lives they put at risk doing it?

Cymbeline · 22/08/2009 22:46

Mamazon yes I think that's unfair

In my instance there was no place to pull over...narrow road, single carriageway, I was stuck - I couldn't stop or really slow down because he'd have slammed into me and it was up a steep hill as well, forgive me but people don't always have lightning reactions mentally or physically - there are always going to be situations that take GOOD drivers completely by surprise.

stickylittlefingers · 22/08/2009 23:10

PLenty of times on a busy motorway you'll be overtaking a slow lorry, driving 70-75 in the outside lane and get an eejit scream up behind you. My first instinct is always to see if I can get back left, but you can't always safely. It is also the tailgater's responsibility to drive safely = nothing to do with "nerves" if you've got a speeding mercedes sprinter inches away - who can blame a parent for feeling scared when you look in the rear view to see your peacefully sleeping dc with a 3 tonne truck trying to get into the back with them?

juneybean · 23/08/2009 00:33

Exactly stickylittlefingers

Even when I was in the left hand lane I had a huge truck up my arse, I couldn't see the driver, just the grate of the engine/heater whatever it is.

raffyandted · 23/08/2009 01:14

Men are my far the worst offenders, but there are some women who drive aggressively. I remember an incident when my DH was driving us on the M$, a woman flew onto the motorway from the slip road right in front of us with absolutely no regard for the traffic on the road she was joining. She nearly hit us, which caused us to swerve, then she pulled straight into the outside lane. She was a horrendous driver, tailgating people, cutting in and out of lanes all the time. She finally did that thing I hate...zoom along in the outside lane until the last possible second before their exit, then cut across the three lanes (causing other drivers to brake sharply) to turn off.

DH made the 'dickhead' gesture at her as she left the motorway & I could see her screeching something back at us as she disappeared from view.

I think responsible drivers (like me!) should be allowed to have James Bond-type gadgets in their cars so that when harrassed by a bad driver we can press a button on the dashboard & machine guns will emerge from the back/side/front of the car to blast the offender.
And THEN they'll be sorry!

raffyandted · 23/08/2009 01:15

I meant M4, not M$

brimfull · 23/08/2009 01:35

not excusing the boy racers arrogance but tbh I think you
sound an unconfident driver and could do with some extra lessons

Tortington · 23/08/2009 01:37

i agree
