to think that 16 is old enough to wear a strapless dress?

MIL thinks not.

She's visiting atm for a long weekend and we were talking earlier about DD's school Leavers' Ball. I've just shown her some photos; she saw DD's dress and suddenly became very sniffy. "Oh," she said, "I didn't know you allowed DD to wear strapless dresses".

Most of her friends in the same photo were wearing strapless gowns, some a lot more revealing than DD's. But MIL appears to think it was "inappropriate at her age" .

DD was planning on wearing a (different) strapless dress to DNiece's wedding next month, but now I feel like she shouldn't be because of what MIL thinks. Am I being unreasonable in thinking MIL is an out-of-touch old cow and letting her wear it anyway? Or is it genuinely not age-appropriate??

She is young, let her wear that sort of thing while she still can
Its a lovely dress and if I wasnt 6 months pregnant it would be a contender for my outfit for my cousins wedding this month!

Shopping around for summer clothes with my 12 year old niece I saw that there were loads of strapless dresses even in her size and boob tubes are back in fashion too so it's really just a case of your MIL not having followed the fashions. We will probably hate what our grandchildren want to wear!

16 is the age you should be to wear a strapless dress.

Not 38 with bingo wings.

and strapless not suitable for a wedding? Most brides wear strapless dresses now, some should tell them!

(personally don't like strapess dresses for brides but fine for 16yr old guest.)

Wearing and then removing shrug though 'transforms' dress from day to evening wear. Same with a hat, people should wear more hats at weddings imo.
