She's lovely but does have an attitude of "It will be fine, why are you worrying". She's invited us to a family party 12 days after my due date. I said we'd love to come but wanted to know if it was in a restaurant as so near due date (restaurants harder to get out of etc). Her reply "Oh I'm sure the baby will have come by then"
Well it might, it also might not. There's also a chance that depending on the birth I might be in hospital / not up to visiting / lying on the sofa with bleeding nipples. But the attitude is "it will be fine, stop worrying". Aaaargh

I think I read somewhere that only 5% of babies arrive on their due date! It's a really small percent of them, most either being born early or late.

In my opinion YANBU, in my experience the MIL is BU and forgetting the realities of life and childbirth. Did all her children come out on their due dates?

I know two women in my uni who were back to studies looking gorgeous a week after their 1st babies were born, but they are clearly the exception to the 'rule'.

My 1st baby is due March 2010 and I fully intend/expect to be lying on my sofa in a state of joyful shock in my nightie for at least a few weeks after! Anyone who suggests a family party will be laughed at... esp if it's my MIL.

YANBU - don't go - i couldn't imagine anything worse to deal with when leaking out of every oriface and dealing with sleepless nights. Sounds stressy already. Send DH and other DCs and stay at home with newbie eating chocolate cake
