To think that people really cant afford school uniforms?

I realise that affording a lot of things for many people is not easy. But one girl in dds class is always getting into trouble for not wearing uniform. Just thinking about this as dd1 is about to go back to school. I have kitted her out for next to nothing (Asda are selling skirts for £3) The girl in dd1's class is always wearing designer trainers etc.....is it genuinely a case of not being able to afford the uniform...what do you think...AIBU??

When my 2 started school here in May, we'd just returned from Spain and had no furniture, no washer, no beds, no work, only JSA (for 2 adults) no child tax credit, no child benefit (still wtg now!) and buying the uniform was extremely difficult for us. At that time we didn't even have enough for gas/elec cards and food. There is no grant available in Derbys. We'd already had loads of crisis loans to get by whilst waitg for benefits to come thru. Then we needed to borrow for rent in advance so we could get out of horrific emergency housing.

The schools said buy what you can, we'll give you a few weeks, and found us a couple of sweaters from last years lost property.

I agree that uniforms are cheap. And there are some children whose parents may not appear to spend wisely. But there are people who struggle, like we did.

I do wear one of those uniforms everyday.. for asda. Yes it's minging (the colour for a start) But it's easy to clean and dry and well its life isn't it.

I'm glad my kids wear uniform albeit cheap ones
