YEs but we should TRY to be nice

TheYearOfTheCat · 15/08/2009 19:23

But there are loads of topics within MN where people do receive support - relationships, SN, allergies, etc.

The very definition of posting 'Am I being unreasonable?' suggests that there is enough doubt in the poster's mind to ask the question in the first place.

MN could do with inventing a new topic, along the lines of 'I am right and I want everyone to validate it.'

victoriascrumptious · 15/08/2009 19:25

I'm sorry Cat but I find the negativity of people like you upsetting

scottishmummy · 15/08/2009 19:28

ah there is the rub, some folk hear a contrary opinion and get all humpy esp on AIBU

and some AIBU are so risible, well they cry out to be snorted at eg

AIBU to think my MIL is a conniving miserable old cow,she wants to chose and buy gluteus maximus christmas present, all herself. i said Noooooooooooooooooooooo i do the present buying around here

and dont get me started on AIBU by stealth, the drip drip of relevant information.each piece revealed in a contradictory manner to flatter OP

at that image.would it be wet nose 1st or ram the stalks and stuff the butterflies.

TheYearOfTheCat · 15/08/2009 19:45

I don't know if I should be miffed or chuffed to bits that I was singled out as being negative on a thread which Scottishmummy was on.

Have decided I'm chuffed, although I have to admit, I don't really think my post is particularly negative.

Perhaps VS is practicing lines to use on her SIL.

If people want support they should never, ever post on AIBU-it just begs someone to say YABextremelyU! They often just want agreement and then get shirty if people disagree. The most useful ones are when people see that the are being very unreasonable-however they need to bear in mind that people simply don't read all the posts. It makes me laugh when OP has apologised on page 3 and people are still attacking her on page 6-either that or they miss a vital piece of information. I think that people should at least read it ALL before they wade in.It is unreasonable not to!

AIBU is not a support forum. A 5 minute lurk tells you this.

scottishmummy · 15/08/2009 20:23

AIBU does have a MN warning that it is contentious and pacey

Note: Please bear in mind that this topic encourages posters to give their opinions - i.e. they might disagree with you. That said, in line with our Talk policy elsewhere, we don't allow personal attacks no matter how unreasonable you think someone is. Do report any you see. Thanks, MNHQ.

oneopinionatedmother · 15/08/2009 20:32

i thought those people were being ironic??

I love a bit of unreason. my first encounter with Mumsnet when someone sent a link (maybe on late 2007?) about a thread where someones MIL had pierced her babies ears with her own mucky earring - the general consensus on that forum was 1) You are all nutjobs and 2) it was a place to post just to validate your own weird-assed self.

i must admit i screamed with laughter at that thread though i was a bit at some opinions expressed.

I now think the ladies on that site were being a bit judgemental themselves.

scottishmummy · 15/08/2009 20:38

some AIBU get folk apoplectic-baby pierced ear,Baby in nursery, bugaboo's

certain AIBU brings all the hairy handed posters out with rent-a-cliche

AIBU brightens up my morning, mid afternoon and sometimes evening.
The more outrageous the better. Oh and I cant resist a good P&T parking AIBU, they are always good when there's nothing on TV.

TheYearOfTheCat · 15/08/2009 21:04

Cyradis - we got your irony.
