I'll be thinking of you Elmo.

It will be okay honest, just take a deep breath & steel yourself

(don't forget to pack the tissues )

ninah · 16/08/2009 20:55

Good luck
I work in a preschool and honestly the dc benefit so much, positive transition towards school. It is fantastic to see their confidence increasing, and to see them bonding with their peers. Be happy for her if you can!

thanks , she is soooooo excited took her over an hour to fall asleep tonight
ill post on this thread tomorrow the first chance i get , fingers crossed she loves it .

she will! look forward to hearing your news
what are you going to do while she is there? Hope something nice for yourself. It does feel v weird and hands free
I used to go for a run and have a long bath - alone! hope you have something even more sybaritic lined up

elmofan · 16/08/2009 21:21

ha haven't got a clue what ill do while she's there , cant even begin to imagine that i will actually get to leave her there as she is SOOOO clingy , but if i do i reckon ill be pacing up & down until i pick her up again , she is our youngest so ill be totally lost without her iykwim
my ds 10 , is still on his summer hols so we will take them both out for a treat after we pick her up ,
when they both go to school it will be the first time i will have time to myself in 10yrs , to go shopping without any tantrums & long faces would be nice

well the first few times you can stay if needs be for settling in, normally
but you know, that few hours to yourself will be quite good when you get used to it! is so odd at first
think of it as her making new friends, not as her leaving you (which she isn't)
really hope it goes well for you
I know I really care about the dc I work with and I'm sure it will be the same at your dd's playschool

babbi · 16/08/2009 21:30

Sorry have not had time to read the replies only the OP . Just wanted to say that this was the same for me and DD this time last year ! I had worked myself up about my very timid and shy DD and how would she cope etc etc first time ever away from me .... I had the attitude if she doesnt like it I am taking right out of there etc etc . First day came she said Bye Mum and left me standing there !!! She LOVES preschool
I am sure your DD will be fine .. best of luck and no YANBU we all feel so sad at this time...... (Don´t forget your hankies !)

elmofan · 16/08/2009 21:37

oh ninah i wish you were my dd teacher , although her teacher does seem lovely too ,
yes all she talks about lately is making friends ,
my sister has ordered me to go for coffee with her for the first time in years without the dc's hanging out of us , ha so when dd settles in , that just might become a regular treat . going to log off now & sort out dd clothes & bag etc for the morning . night all

dd1 who is now 14 was and still is a very confidant child never said goodbye and started nursery age2.6 dd2 who is now 12 was and still is a clingon she was peeled off me every day when she went to nursery age 3, she was fine after 5 minutes, loved going but loved making a fuss. I dreaded her starting school but on her first day she didn't even look back, I had to grab her to say goodbye. She has always been fine but needs to know where I am even now hence we bought her a mobile and shes happy with that. The point to telling you this is that all children are different and i'm sure my dd2 was never harmed by going to nursery I think it did her good, and it certainly did me good.

hi all well we had a great start to our day , dd slept the WHOLE NIGHT in her own bed & did not wake up crying once ( we have had a nightmare with her lately)
& she cycled down to her playschool with ds & dh& me thismorning , kissed us goodbye & walked straight in with her teacher no tears just very quiet cant wait to pick her up , the time is passing soooo slowly , have to pick her up at 12.30pm
her grandparents & aunt are coming over for a tea party with dd at 2pm , just to make a fuss over her

omg elmo that is brilliant! next time you can enjoy yourself too, coffee with your sis or whatever, world's your oyster for a few hours So glad it all went well!

elmofan · 17/08/2009 18:26

thanks ninah , think ill stay close by just in case this week but next week that coffee & shopping is definitely on the cards she cant wait to go back tomorrow ,
we had a little party for her today , but she is very very tired now , all that playing is hard work .
i didn't get a chance to ask her teacher how she got on as all the mothers arrived together & i didn't want to delay them , but tbh her smile said it all ,

Well we have made it through the first week but she has been sickly since Wednesday & very tired , i did not send her into school yesterday as she was out of sorts but she seemed brighter this morning & delighted to go in ,& her teacher gave her a big hug when she opened the door to her this morning which i thought was lovely .
