(not too contentious I hope) - AIBU to want to take my breadmaker on holiday?

Obviously not me and just the Panny eloping to Devon , but with the whole family, you understand. We use it almost daily, I would rather keep doing that while we are away rather rely on local bread from bakery or supermarket (in a seaside town, very hilly, lots of sloggin with double buggy) or rely on my parents' tendancy to either have SHT loads of cheap crp white from Somerfields (yellow label only) or no bread at all. Let me know what you think, should it stay or go in the back of the car (bearing in mind it will be heaving with too much of all our other essentials). Hmmmmmm.............

by the way, I have already mentioned it to DP, he laughed at me

yabu

just go and buy nice bread

is there a freezer compartment there

KatyS36 · 31/07/2009 20:11

We didn't on our self catering holiday earlier this year.

But that was only as google said there was an artesian bakery 100 m from our cottage

EyeballsintheSky · 31/07/2009 20:15

Mine went to Cornwall....but we left it at home for Center Parcs

ReneRusso · 31/07/2009 20:17

Was about to say YABU, but you've got me thinking. We are going to Devon too and the food shopping isn't great. So I say, Panny goes. Infact pack it first, before kids toys start taking up space. Might draw the line at the steamer.

Liskey · 31/07/2009 20:17

YANBU - my panny always comes with us to the Lake District - nothing like a doorstep sandwich when your on holiday.

Woollymummy · 31/07/2009 20:25

that is a quality idea, i have checked out house on google but never thought to find out bakery distance!! cheers, (still might take it though)

I like the idea of Glutten free bread

sadly, it wouldn't include me

scrappydappydoo · 31/07/2009 20:43

Are you going to salcombe by any chance? if yes yabu - there is a fab bakery in town...

Woollymummy · 31/07/2009 20:52

no, Sidmouth, as far as I remember average bakeries, Waitrose far away on top of big hill, rubbish Somerfield very close. Hmmmm

barking, absolutely barking
We have quite good bread here in Devon you know!

random · 31/07/2009 21:00

Why would you? yabu

blithedance · 31/07/2009 21:09

If there is a bakery realistically close then use them and help a local business.

Last holiday cottage I stayed in HAD its own breadmaker but no instructions, resulting in some brick like offerings while I experimented...

How about you sneak in a couple of bags of breadmix and a baking tin? Presumably the place has an oven?

IdrisTheDragon · 31/07/2009 21:12

I don't see why you shouldn't take it.

BedofRosesItAintII · 31/07/2009 21:12

But YABU to not reply to my request for your bread recipe..

(Why does everyone ignore my posts?) [paranoid emoticon]

ihavenewsockson · 31/07/2009 21:18

YANBU, just wierd.

BottySpottom · 31/07/2009 21:26

Once we went on holiday just after we had got our Panny. I really missed it [blush[ - we went to look at some in a shop even though we had one at home!

Could you just take the bread?

LovingTheRain · 31/07/2009 23:30

YANBU, take it with you!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 01/08/2009 06:05

YANBU. I think it's a great idea.

I hate crap bread. Might have to take ours.

branflake81 · 01/08/2009 08:26

YABU.

What is a holiday if not a time for relaxing the usual rules, eating a bit of crap and enjoying yourself.

And (FWIW) I think you are a bit snobby about supermarkets...

Crazy idea frankly. We do have bakeries in Devon you know .

kslatts · 01/08/2009 09:04

Mad to take a bread maker on holiday, I can see why your dh laughed.

Northernwitch · 04/08/2009 21:30

Take it - it'll make you feel better. I took my potato peeler with me to Wales earlier in the year - I had a much better holiday with it.

toddlerama · 04/08/2009 21:42

If in doubt, bring it.
