Long time lurker first time poster- please be gentle with me!

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and my sister & mum have decided to throw me a baby shower. Lovely, I think, & get all excited.

Till I realise I don't actually have anyone to invite.
See i lost contact with lots of my friends over the years (typical teenager, gets a boyfriend ditches the mates) with only the occasional e-mail or accidental bumping into people shopping etc.
Fast forward six years later and as 20 something apart from my two women work colleagues I dont really have any contact with girl friends anymore. My DP's mates are all single so theres no other girlfriends to invite.
My sister said she'd take care of it all & that she'd sent loads of invites out, but now i'm beginning to panic that I'll turn up to my mums house and no one will be there. I can't sleep now because I'm so worried and v. embarrassed.

Okay, stop panicking! This happens to lots of people and having a baby is a sure fire way of meeting new friends.
I'm sure your sister has it under control and you will have a great time. Even if there is a small number of people there just try to enjoy it and feel pampered.
Once the baby is here this is a great opportunity to meet new people or catch up with old friends who also have children.

Yes, definitely relax and enjoy it. Your sister would be gently downgrading if there weren't so many people attending. she obviously has a plan and whether there are 5 of you or 15 you'll have a good time. Enjoy it.

Thanks ladies.
I'm really looking forward to the baby arriving so I can go out an join mother and baby groups and meet new people.
I hope I sleep better tonight the worrying has been keeping me awake, everything seems so much worse when pregnant xx

Have you dona an antenatal class? Really good way to meet other women in the same boat as you - most groups have meet ups/coffee dates after the babies are born and I've made two real mates out of it. Don't worry - even if it is only a few women, there will be (presumably) cake and fun, you will have a lovely time and probably cry

worst case scenario you have a lovely afternoon with your sister and mum - and I'm sure it won't be that bad
