AIBU - to not feed my mum's cats while she is on holiday.......

Mum & Dad have gone away on holiday and before they went they asked me to feed their cats. I've got 2 young kids so although it would be a bit of a pain to drag them out twice a day for cat feeding its not far to go and wouldn't be too much hassle, esp considering how much M&D have done for me.

But I said no. Now before you start thinking- 'what a heartless cow'.......

My 20 year old brother is home from uni with no summer job and the reason he can't feed the cats is because he likes to sleep in late so they might not get fed til lunchtime!!!!!

I said I'm sure the cats would adjust to the new feeding time - but my grandad thinks I'm an ungrateful unhelpful cow.

Has no one told your Grandad it is 2009..?

I'd tell your Grandad: sorry you can't help, your DH won't give you the day off from your wifely duties and you're not sure when the key to the chain for the sink is. I think he'll understand.

Hee hee soggy monster, I think thats a great idea. I have a lazy twat of a brother too and I LOVE sending my 2 DS's up on a saturday morn when he's home (he works away 12 days, home to parents for 2) to wake him.

Pay back for him being such a pain up until he was age 13, when I left home.

Did you really need to ask is YABU???

Leave the feeding to your lazy arse of a brother, he will not be sleeping late - the cats will trampoline on his face until he gets up and feeds them. That's what mine used to do to me if i slept late .

WhereYouLeftIt · 29/07/2009 23:39

And as for your grandfather - what is it with the men in your family?

famishedass · 29/07/2009 23:51

"Good grief.
I think I might agree to it, then let the dc run in at 7am and bounce all over your bro"

whilst dh mows the lawn under your brothers bedroom window and you hoover outside his door, whilst ringing the housephone with your mobile.

My bro is 26 and very capable of looking after himself, my mum still asks me to feed him if she is away. My brother says to her that he is able to cook himself, but she doesn't listen lol. My DB was living with his ex for 4 years so think he is old enough to be trusted

famishedass · 30/07/2009 00:01

Please God let this thread be a lesson to all of us not to mollycolly our own sons.

hambler · 30/07/2009 00:20

when I look after my friend's cat I feed it twice a WEEK!

kitkatqueen · 30/07/2009 00:25

blimey hambler, how much food do you put down?

SparklyGothKat · 30/07/2009 00:26

if I go away for a few days I just put loads of dried food and water down for my cats. My PILs pop in and check the cats are ok.

2rebecca · 30/07/2009 22:55

YANBU, brother neds to grow up, parents need to stop mollycoddling him.

Spidermama · 30/07/2009 22:59

I have a brother like this. Angel Boy. He was always allowed to borrow mums car, do what he wanted, play football while me and my sister cleaned and cooked.

It wasn't his fault it was mum's.

He's fine now and we get on well despite this dysfunctional inability to let go on the part of my mother.

PurpleOne · 30/07/2009 23:05

Even if I sleep late and my bedroom door is closed, our cat and her brood will PHYSICALLY throw themselves against the door and make the most horrendous racket.
Then when they are all fed and asleep, I am then wide awake
Nothing like having a cat as your own personal alarm clock.
MummyCat used to like pawing my face at dawn I have since trained her to wait a little bit longer!

Why does anyone have cats?

kitkatqueen · 31/07/2009 01:41

believe me - i'm begining to wonder, mine are being total buggers atm

gagamama · 31/07/2009 12:47

YANBU! Waking up to feed some cats is hardly an ordeal, nor is waiting til midday for food if you are a feline. Traipsing two small children round to granny's house twice a day for a week or more definitely is!

I agree with the posters who said to either call DB to wake him up, or take the kids and let them do it!

mumeeee · 31/07/2009 22:33

YANBU. Our ca often gets fed at unusual times and she is fine.

pranma · 01/08/2009 21:41

Go every other day and fill bowls with dry cat food[Iams or Hills]fill a large bowl with water the cats will be fine.
