To wish my cats would stop having sex on my new bedspread?

I wouldn't mind but one is a cat and one is a kitten so the cat has no chance of what he is aiming for which means, I think (but try not to) that my spread will be soiled.

This is interesting. All cats I've had in the past have been spayed or neutered and boy cat would have been done earlier this year except we moved house and where we are now there are lots of semi-stray cats about and he now seems to get into tussles more.

I was in two minds as to whether neutering would be better for him or whether keeping him entire (he doesn't spray, etc.) would rank him higher in the pecking order thus giving him more chance with the bullies. To be honest I'm starting to think that not only should we get kitten spayed at 12 weeks as planned, but also him neutered at the same time as he is still having scraps and I worry that he is wandering more because of not being neutered ,although having a companion now keeps him closer to home as we thought it might.

I have asked a few people about this but I haven't had a defnitive answer really. The rescue we took the kitten from were blanket rule pro neutering and they are probably right but you can hopefully see my thinking?

Male cat will fight MORE if not neutered, get them both done, him asap, kitten as soon as she's old enough, she may already be pregnant so i'd take her to the vets to get checked out

You certainly shouldn't be letting a tom that hasn't been neutered out. There are enough unwanted cats in the world as it is.

catsmother · 30/07/2009 17:43

I agree with absolutely everything Msled said.

Apart from anything, if the kitten isn't even 12 weeks old yet, if the adult cat does manage to "get what he is aiming for", it will be very distressing and painful for the kitten. She might even be injured in the process.

Neuter the cat and keep the bedroom doors closed. Easy problem to solve. Some people just like moaning. Sounds like kitten abuse anyway poor thing.

Eurch! Cat spunk on the bed.

Man spunk is bad enough. Keep the dirty fecker out of your room.

Yes, hobgoblin, definitely get them both done, the older male preferably ASAP and the femaile kitten as soon as she's old enought. He may start spraying even if he hasn't done so yet, and it's really stinky & nearly impossible to remove the smell. Our neighbour had an unneutered tom that repeatedly used to come into our house and 'spray' the DVD player ...vile!

Also the male will be less likely to wander & get lost if he's not out looking for females. And you will be protecting your female from attracting the attention of all the other unneutered toms in the area. And it goes without saying that the less unwanted kittensd there are the better.

Boy cat booked in for 10th Aug, but kitten has to wait til 6 months. Is that right?

kitten might be pregnant by then, mine was by 5 months (the original appalling furry tart) - sometimes vets will do it a bit earlier
