I am 11 weeks and had my booking appointment today. I had a scan at 8 weeks and saw a heart beat - all fine.

My midwife said she would listen with a doppler for the heart beat today, but couldn't find it. She said not to worry and that she shouldn't really do it yet.

Really worried now!

bumpsoon - the swooshing is the placenta isn't it? I thought it sounded a bit bizarre to be a pulse until the mw told me what it was

OP, really, try not to worry this is normal. MW probably just thought it would be nice if you did get to hear something which is why she tried so early.

my midwife advised me we may not hear babies heartbeat and she didnt want me t worry if we didnt hear it! I was 13 weeks exactly!

Popped dopplar on and there was heartbeat nice and clear. He was playing hide and seek with her somewhat but i was over the moon!

But they dont normally check till 16 weeks. Sounds to me like all is normal with your pregnancy.

Yep, no panic, baby is just too dinky yet.

My MW was insistant she wouldn't even try until 16 wks onwards. It was like horse hooves every appointment then on.

sorry! I didn't mean to imply that you had any excess padding! I was just adding it as an example of why we may not be able to hear the heartbeat. Am very jealous, I have not been 8 stone 6 since I was a child!!! I would have no concerns at all about not hearing a heartbeat if I was looking after you as you don't report having any signs of a miscarriage.
Good luck
