That is totally out of order. I would be furious. If J's mother forgot they should have had some provision themselves, not make another child go hungry.

tulip27 · 27/07/2009 20:58

I thought it was policy of most nursery schools not to let other children eat your childs food re helth and safety, food allergies and helath and hygiene etc.I would be making a complaint.

GirlsAreLoud · 27/07/2009 20:59

Who is X? Her keyworker?

That's totally out of order if so.

AnarchyAunt · 27/07/2009 20:59

Thats outrageous!

How dare they

Complain.

your dd should not have had to share her lunch. What if J had allergies? I would have serious words with the nursery manager about it.

allaboutme · 27/07/2009 21:00

Even worse that the key worker KNEW she had gone hungry and somebody else ate her lunch, not even an error!
I'd formally complain too. Your poor DD

kickassangel · 27/07/2009 21:00

i would just write a friendly note, requesting that this doesn't happen again, and explaining why. perhaps you could suggest that the nursery have some spare food, e.g cartons of drink etc, in case this happens, and request a larger discount on next month's bill as they failed to care for your daughter properly.

it seems very odd tbh, as it would just have been more logical if every kid gave a bit to J, or the staff divided up the food, or even gave some of their own!

allaboutme · 27/07/2009 21:01

the staff must have had food they could share or a shop nearby surely in preference to taking another childs lunch

trollbeadaddict · 27/07/2009 21:04

Definately complain. I agree - that's totally out of order.

Definately complain
They should have provided food from their own lunch, or gone to a local shop

bigstripeytiger · 27/07/2009 21:11

Just to put a slightly alternative point of view...

Would your DD be able to eat that much? The amount of food that you have given her seems to be a lot for a child of nursery age.

I wonder if the nursery nurses were comfortable with your DD sharing her food because they thought that she had more than she would be able to eat?

Obviously that doesnt address H&S issues!

lou031205 · 27/07/2009 21:15

How much food the OP's daughter had is irrelevant, IMO, they still took her food for another child, and obviously weren't supervising too well, either.

It obviously was'nt too much for a nursery child if J managed to eat it all!!

Your poor DD.

Definietly complain to the nursery. If J didn't have a lunch then that is J's Mother's fault and something for the nursery to rectify either by contacting the mother or finding some alternative food - they should not be stealing from your DD to feed her!!!

Or... your daughter was really generous in sharing with her friend, and while the staff should have made sure she kept enough for herself, she'll know in future not to hand over almost everything! Surely a wee chat with your daughter would have been enought to ensure this was a one-off learning experience?
Fuming, formal complaints... Really?

You can't expect a three year old to be able to determine how much food she would need to keep her going over a day in order to decide how much to give away! That is ridiculous. Learning experience indeed!

It does sound like the manager is on MN

kitkatqueen · 29/07/2009 23:41

Dilemma,

I would have been v upset too and there is a good chance I would have posted on here too I am really pleased tho that you got such a proactive response from the nursery, If the same thing happened at dd's nursery I am positive I would not have had that sort of response.

In one go the manager has accepted that an error was made, written a protocol to prevent it happening again and dealt with the staff who allowed it to happen.

I'm suddenly thinking that dd isn't in a very good nursery....

Glad you got it all resolved without having to make a complaint. You would imho have been totally within your rights to complain - loudly!

pickyvic · 29/07/2009 23:42

gosh id be so livid i think youd have had to hold me back.

i would definately confirm the story and then complain - strongly - using the nurseries own complaints procedure. i would have been outraged! i think id be looking for a different childcare provider if i were you.
good luck

1dilemma · 29/07/2009 23:50

So my comment to write a wee note to say that you had spat/licked on all your daughters food is probably no longer needed

I'd have been furious too!
