to have found the sight of dh and his friend in 18th century frock coats really quite stirring?

we went to a stately home and they had costumes you could try on (as well as lots of pictures of well known actors appearing in 18th C. costume dramas...) I think the costumes were mainly for children, but there were some adult ones (presumably for parents to entertain their children...not sure you'd be brave enough to do it if you didn't have kids....)and dh and friend were transformed. one minute I was with a couple of pleasant enough guys in jeans and t-shirts....next minute there were these gentlemen, who were clearly loaded in their rich brocade, clearly sophisticated, educated...and quite possibly up for walking me across the lawns and playing a rather daring game of hide and seek in the maze...

AIBU aren't I?

Did you take a pic?

kathyis6incheshigh · 27/07/2009 14:47

I am not in the least surprised. When I was younger I used to do historical re-enactments and there was always a lot of sex. Bet you would garner a surprising amount of male attention if you were wearing the equivalent female dress, as well.

I think I was born in the wrong era and the wrong social class...

my dh wore a velvet frock coat when we got married

with a green silk cravat and his two-foot-long hair loose

there is something unfailingly sexy about the in-out shape of frock coats

cornsillk · 27/07/2009 14:55

Yes I'd have been a scullery maid unfortunately. Even that may be a bit ambitious.

IdrisTheDragon · 27/07/2009 14:55

I would also find it quite stirring I think

Wrong era for me, I'm afraid, but whatever floats yer boat.
Great title, btw - couldn't not respond!

MadEyeballsMoody · 28/07/2009 13:40

Ooh I love that era. Were they all Ross Poldark-esque then?

DH has no hair, he could never carry it off

kathyis6incheshigh · 28/07/2009 13:58

Madeyeballs, couldn't he wear a wig? That would be v authentically 18th c.

bella21 · 28/07/2009 14:01

photos required please...

PuppyMonkey · 28/07/2009 14:05

Ooh, I'm loving the sound of this. My DP would really suit that look too, I reckon.

DjangoTheDjinn · 28/07/2009 14:08

My dh grew his hair long (natural ringlets too) and wore a frock coat at our wedding. Oh my.

Giles Coren puts on a frock coat and I have Inappropriate Stirrings. It's wrong but I cannot help it.

MadEyeballsMoody · 28/07/2009 14:09

True, but it'd probably be a grey powdery one. Ugh

bella21 · 28/07/2009 14:11

I have a pash for Giles too...
