DS 19 months sleeps from 6:30pm - 7am then goes back to sleep from 9:30-12. All sounds good except all our local toddler groups, singing etc are in the mornings.

He loves singing and dancing, his speech is a bit slow and he would really love to go/needs to go but he falls asleep on the way, cries when woken up is grumpy as hell then hyper all day and won't go back to sleep!!

We have number 2 on the way after Christmas and so I quite like the fact he sleeps well........so I can be sick all morning alone!!! BUT I really worry he is missing out. There is just nothing in the afternoons!!

I strongly advise you do not mess with it, that is A LOT of sleep, be grateful! changing it might be for the worse

you can do things with him in the afternoons to encourage speech development yourself..

Thanks ladies. Your right, I need the rest TNH and his speech will come on. I'll get my dancing shoes and singing voice out for the afternoons!

Am I reading right ?
He only has 1 nap all day, and he goes down for that nap 2 and a half hours after getting up ? Lucky you my DS2 was/is not a keen sleeper.

If you are worried, I would start knocking on the nap a little bit each week, just half an hour or so. Christmas is a long way off and you will prob find by then he will last longer before he needs to nap.

That peaceful hour or so after lunch was a godsend for me. good luck with no 2.

Leave it, please leave it. It's frustrating to not be able to go to the groups, but that is A LOT of sleep and A LOT of time for you to sleep/vomit/whatever. I figure his naps will change when he needs it, and in the meantime just do what you can in the afternoon. I think you'd both suffer more if you had less sleep/he was grumpy etc.
