to want to adopt a rescue dog?

DH says "no way" but I've seen an adorable 2 year old dog on the rspca website.

I'm an experienced dog owner, currently have an 8 year old springer, castrated male, who's really one of the family, but slowed down a lot in the last year.

Kids are 15 and 14.

We did have a second dog, a border collie, but he developed epilepsy when he was 1 and I decided to put him to sleep, and have felt full of guilt pretty much since.

DH is away for a day more, so I'm really tempted to ring the rspca to make a appointment to see the dog.

small point - he decided to get the collie when he was a pup and I really was against it and told him he should not discuss it with the children, which he did (this was when the kids were much younger)

shall I make the call?

She is when I go to it?

Yes, rescue Penny : - ) it says she needs a more experienced dog to help her & it seems you have that.

...she needs you....!

Was just in the middle of a ratty reply but just double checked and it's the dog underneath... Toby.

Ooops.

Still, I wouldn't ring unless dh is all go.

oh gawd, shes gorgeous - looks quite big for a staff mind, even so...........i wouldn't take much persuading. Fingers crossed for you xx

DrunkenDaisy · 23/07/2009 10:58

why was my post daft?

twoluvlykids · 23/07/2009 14:04

sadly, she can't go to a home with cats....... even though ours is never in and is used to being chased by our existing dog, the rspca said "no" straight away, as we have a cat...

so sad.....

anyone want a good mouser? free to a kind owner....

(only joking, in case anyone decides to flame me, I don't like the cat but he is my responsibility..)

I have never heard that before - I am sure my local RSPCA dog home doesn't say that - is it specific to the dog in question? I have a friend that has rescue dogs all the time and she has about 8 cats

twoluvlykids · 23/07/2009 16:06

I am upset, because it doesn't say on the details on the website about cats, although it does for other dogs on there.

Anyway, it's obviously not meant to be!

It'll depend on the dog. They wouldn't risk rehoming it to a house with a cat if it has previous.

When we were looking at rescue dogs we were told staffies were a no go if you had cats. I guess not every staffie is a cat chaser but I suppose they have to be careful the dog doesn't come back to them after munching the household moggy!
We ended up with a jack russel/border terrier cross and she is great. She loves the cats but is very respectful towards them. They think she is good fun to chase around the house!
