so, in the past week Fern Britton has been replaced by holly willoughby, arlene philips has been sacked in favour of alesha dixon and jo whiley replaced by fearne cotton. and not so long ago that woman off 10 years younger replaced by mylene klass.

I am outraged - who do they think watches these programmes, and more importantly how much disposable income do they/advertisers think the foetuses from these womens generations have???

Join me ladies in boycotting these programmes and their sponsors/advertisers and sending the message that we aren't disposable when we hit 30!

I agree with the op.
Where are the female equivalents of Des O'Connor, Bruce Forsyth, Jon Snow etc etc?

How on earth can Alisha Dixon replace Arlene Philips? and btw I wanted Alisha to win strictly but she is no replacement for Arlene who has worked in the business for years. Also I can't imagine Alisha being anything other than "really nice" to all the contestants, which lets face it, will be tedious.

I don't watch daytime tv, but bloody Holly Willouby made me want to smash the tv up when she was on iceskating, simpering and showing her tits she came across as a thick slag and I don't normally use such language.

The only relief is that they aren't using the piece of MDF plywood otherwise known as Kelly (can you spell that phonetically for me please) Brooke.

Complain to the bbc . Guardian today said they'd had ?900 complaints about Strictly replacing Arlene Phillips. They need more to make them sit up and realise that people do mind about this kind of thing.

Complain by email - only takes a minute

I've watched Strictly perhaps twice in my life, but hell, I've had a beer (again) and thought "why not?" - so sent them the following complaint:

I thoroughly resent and disapprove of the fact that you have replaced Arlene Phillips on Strictly because she has known the phenomenom of 'night sweats' first hand.

Are you turning into ITV??

Also why is that fella on BBC Breakfast News (the one with the bee keeping proclivities) tolerated despite his comb over when his opposite number has to be distinctly 30's tops?

I'm still sober enough to blush at my stream of consciousness....

But seriously, it is an issue - and it stinks.

UnquietDad · 19/07/2009 00:38

Well, Radio 1 has had a policy of having "cool young" presenters for a while now. Not so long ago, Whiley was the young upstart herself.

FairLadyRantALot · 19/07/2009 00:39

oh, but they just want to go with the times, thet are not ageist/sexist...tbh....I hardly ever watch bbc because ot is shite...bar those few programmes, such as strictly///and of other s promise to boycott i will

midlandsmumof4 · 19/07/2009 01:03

I can't understand why RADIO presenters are being replaced cos of their age. I personally would not know who Jo Whiley, Edith Bowman or Chris Moyles were even if they came up to me in the street and introduced themselves . (Don't like Chris Moyles btw). They are voices fgs. I'm 53 and my job mostly entails speaking to customers on the phone. I sound a lot younger-by about 25 years apparently . Replacing Arlene with Alisha is a really bad move. Wouldn't be surprised if the Beeb back tracked on this one.

DarrellRivers · 19/07/2009 08:58

UQD, that was at least 18 years ago
I was working out in my mind when I had first heard her

FranSanDisco · 19/07/2009 10:09

Fearne Cotton's voice is not for radio, it is too awful. She is overated imvho. Radio 2 it is then .

hocuspontas · 19/07/2009 10:46

Do we know Holly Willoughby's salary? I wondered if it was more than Fern was getting

cornsillk · 19/07/2009 10:55

I really like listening to Edith Bowman. I don't know how old she is, but to me she comes across as fairly young - late 20's/early 30's? Fearne Cotton I find very annoying. I won't be able to listen to her at all. Chris Moyles has grown on me a tiny bit - it's his sycophantic crew that I can't stand. But then I suppose he wants them there...which does after all make him a twat.

spicemonster · 19/07/2009 11:02

Why is only Radio 1's female presenters that have to be young and cool but it's okay to have old blokes?

I have to say that I don't know a single young person that thinks Fearne Cotton is cool tbh

Wilts · 19/07/2009 11:05

Edith is late 3o's I think.

I will not be able to listen to Fearne, her voice gets on my wick and she doesn't pronounce words properly, and I can never be sure if she does it in a bid to be 'cool'

I am not that keen on Jo Whiley as I think she believes she is just as famous as some of her guests. But I would rather her than Fearne.

My favourite presenters one Radio one are actually Sara Cox and Vernon Kay.

cornsillk · 19/07/2009 11:10

I like Sara Cox as well. I'm not sure about Vernon - I'm sure he exaggerates his accent. His brother was on and his accent is not as strong. Surely Vernon's would be less Northern as he lives (presumably) in the South?

dawntigga · 19/07/2009 11:30

I already boycott these programmes as Star Trek is on at these times

poshsinglemum · 19/07/2009 14:13

yanbu- i like these older women. the younger replacements are dull, dull, dull.

I hate to admit but I do listen to Moyles.

poshsinglemum · 19/07/2009 14:21

Can't stand Myeleen Klass. That Nicky woman was older but looked great for her age. Surely that's the whole point of ten years younger? Got it wrong and Alesha on Strictly? No, no, no!

ottersRus · 19/07/2009 20:31

lol @ hmc. Love to know what their reply is to that.
