Everyone is 'furious' and 'livid' and 'disgusted'. It's quite alarming. If we aren't very careful there will be an adjective arms race. Soon 'furious' won't be enough any more. The mildest word that will have any meaning be 'incandescent'. And then we will move on to threats of violence and mutually assured destruction.

Please please for the safety of all user and the sanity of the few may we tone down the anger. For 'livid' please substitute 'a little annoyed'. For 'furious' how about 'mildly miffed'?

Who's with me? All those in favour say 'aye'. Gently and don't forget to say please.

You are not being unreasonable, OrmIrian.

I have been taken aback recently by anger, unwillingness to listen, and general scathing criticism.

I wish these members would make an effort to learn debate etiquette.

Morloth · 16/07/2009 20:06

I don't think we have a debate etiquette on AIBU scienceteacher at least I hope not - I think the free for all and deliberate misreadings make for much more entertaining threads.

This isn't really the place for intelligent discussions about stuff.

ThingOne · 16/07/2009 20:21

Snort!

I once asked a mild mannered question about a problem at school and was told off for going in "all guns blazing", when there was no suggestion of even the slightest bit of bad mood. People so often just read it in.

BitOfFun · 16/07/2009 20:46

I did start a thread about an irritating advert recently entitled "Am I being unreasonable? : To want to rip the arms and legs off this person and beat them remorselessly about the head and torso with the bloodied stumps?" , so I suppose I may have contributed to the general disquiet. I do apologize

GentlyDoesIt · 16/07/2009 20:48

BitOfFun What on earth was the ad, Stannah Stairlifts?

pickyvic · 16/07/2009 20:55

BitOfFun · 16/07/2009 21:03

It was this one...but you must turn the sound up quite loud to get the full effect and promise to watch it ALL THE WAY THROUGH to really get where I was coming from, ok?

pickyvic · 16/07/2009 21:13

GentlyDoesIt · 16/07/2009 21:24

HuffwardlyRouge · 17/07/2009 03:51

I am mildly piqued, on occasion.

screamingabdab · 17/07/2009 06:20

< goes off to start another AIBU thread >

screamingabdab · 17/07/2009 06:24

BTW we had a lovely thread last week about the showing of the Thriller video at a school, where we were all tripping over ourselves to point out the we weren't arguing, just "disgusting" (a phrase I apparently used to my mum when I was about 5).

It was most refreshing

OrmIrian · 17/07/2009 09:33

That ad is annoying especially since DS#1 has discovered I find it so and sings it at me all the time

Not worth doing time for though.
