To ask my neighbour to take down her windchimes?

I live on the ground floor of a block of flats, my neighbours balcony in right above my living room and bedroom window. Recently my neighbour has hung up 2 sets of windchimes, i can hear them all day and night even with my windows closed, i couln't sleep the other night because all i could hear were her windchimes, so AIBU to politely ask her to take them down?

Put Hit Me With Your Rhythm stick on your stereo on repeat, very loud with all your windows open and then bugger off for the weekend

I sympathise. Noises like windchimes are unbearable when you are trying to sleep.

I have got fucking seagulls nesting on my roof, there is a baby in a nest up there. All it does is cheep in a very very high pitched way (sounds like a dog whistle). All the time. All the damn time. It is especially bad at 5 oclock on a Saturday morning when my body clock wakes me up, I realise I don't have to get up and then I can get back to sleep because of the frigging noise^.

LittleMissBliss · 14/07/2009 18:26

Any news, has she realised what PITA she is being and removed them?

TheChilliMooseIsRubbish · 14/07/2009 19:01

Seagulls are so annoying.

gingernutlover · 14/07/2009 19:30

agree with the making noise at midnight LOL, if she complains just say that you couldn't sleep with her windchimes going so thought you might as well hoover/disco dance/swat flies on the ceiling

or spray her windchimes with expanding spray foam he he!

RenagadeMum · 14/07/2009 19:35

LOL ginger

Do you know anyone with a saxophone/trumpet/trombone/bagpipes?

If so, borrow them for a while and "practice" lots, particularly during times when Eastenders/Corrie is on (or whatever programme you think she might like), late at night or early on a Sunday morning

orangemoon · 15/07/2009 09:51

She's taken them down!!! Don't know if it was because i asked her to or the fact it was very windy here last night and they were making an awful racket, so maybe they started to annoy her, but they're gone now, just hope she doesn't put them back up.

Are we allowed to add to this thread neighbours with annoyingly over-bright security lights? The ones that blind you if you have to walk past or do something legitimate like stick a parish newsletter through the letterbox?

Apart from anything, the very bright light produces even darker shadow, enabling burglars.

RenagadeMum · 15/07/2009 11:59

Hurray Orange Moon!
She has seen the light. (Although hopefully not an over bright one of the security fashion)

Perhaps popping over now and giving her a warm thanks would be neighbourly? (Then scattering the communal grounds with plastic pink flamingos)

TheChilliMooseIsRubbish · 15/07/2009 12:24

Yes you could go and thank her as it might prevent her from putting them back up.

oranges · 15/07/2009 12:27

No! Don't go over - then she'll have to acknowledge she took them down because of you and may put them up again.

Kbear · 15/07/2009 19:28

I would say thanks next time you see her, you don't have to make a big deal about it but an acknowledgement would be neighbourly I think.

Windchimes? annoying? seriously??

I may be going against the grain but i think YABU

My neighbours have tinkly windchimes AND clunky wooden ones, sometimes when they smoke it drifts in, other neighbours have either a bbq or a bonfire -seemingly as soon as I peg an item on the line-sigh, and the ones across the road have searchlight style security lights that BEAM in through my windows in a sort of Colditz stylie!!

However, I suspect the noise from my brood of 4 children is VERY annoying at times, maybe we let our garden get a bit overgrown etc etc, and I suspect my cat doesn't just poo in our garden however much i try to kid myself!!!!!!!!

I think we all need to relearn how to live and let live a bit-we're all probably equally annoying to our neighbours at times!!
