To feel quite sceptical whenever someone asks to explain their children's SAT levels

especially since they almost always seem to be top levels for that stage? There's been so many threads of the sort and yet people keep asking.

Kind of like those "Please help, my 6 month old ds is doing my 18 year old ds's algebra homework, does this sound about average for his age?" posts. Obviously not everyone has an ulterior motive (i.e. bragging) when posting something like that, but AIBU to think that a lot do?

I have been guilty of this but cannot be accused of bragging, my dear little soul's marks were low. I needed help because the sentence explaining marks on his report didnt cover what he got (P8).

Like racmac I got loads of advice on MN. It was very helpful.

I too was confused about SATS as I was expecting a b or c with the results as well as the number.

My excuse is that I am Scottish and the English school system baffles me.

"Reception" is also another thing I can't get my head round. Why is it called that?

Oh feek that is just so naff.

In Scotland they do two years in nursery then Primary 1.

Ds is off to Yr1 in September, reception will soon be a distant memory for me!

will switch to 'l(low), s (secure) and h (high) ' ??

think i will switch to LSD, as being less hallucinogenic than these scoring systems

Did I explain it right?

Beacuse if so I'm really struggling to understand why they are so hard to understand?
