Marmaduke, there are unlikely to be any more 'confirmed' cases in any area now because routine testing isn't being done any more. There could still be just as much flu, but it won't be reported in the news in same way that the early cases were.

You may be able to get an idea of how much flu is in your region from these GP reports:

www.rcgp.org.uk/pdf/RCGP%20Weekly%20Report%20Wk27%20_2009_.pdf

That's the one from a week ago for England and Wales - look at the graphs on page 2 and find the one for your area. The main page is here.

DS1 came down with it on Saturday, I came down with it on Monday and today DS2 has come down with it. I have had my Tamiflu since yesterday, ds1 & ds2 from today along with dp.

squeakywheel · 09/07/2009 16:16

How did you get the Tamiflu? It's really hard to work out what the rules (if there's even one set) for getting it or not are!

Riven, haven't you worked out yet that it's only the healthy people that matter? That's why we're reading so many reassuring posts about how this new flu's only dangerous to people with underlying health conditions - because those people don't really matter. It's only the healthy ones that do, and (whew!) there's no need to panic, they're all going to be OK!

TheLadyEvenstar · 09/07/2009 17:26

Squeaky, I was given it as DS1 and I have bad asthma and ds2 is so young still (21 months), I was told they are not swabbing people in london anymore and are just prescribing tamiflu after an over the phone diagnosis.

Squeakywheel do you mean on this thread or others? I haven't read anything like that on here, sorry you have.

I got advice re Swine Flu/Tamiflu from my dds paed cardiologist as I said earlier, via her hospital. If I hadn't had anything from her hospital I would have contacted one of the Outreach nurses - if you have one and you are unsure, I'd call.

squeakywheel · 09/07/2009 18:12

I don't mean on this thread specially, just generally really (and not only on Mumsnet).

PacificDogwood · 09/07/2009 18:17

Riven, are you looking for prophylactic Tamiflu for you daughter, rather than treatment? As fas as I understand it here (in Scotland) that has pretty much stopped all together, meaning only people with flu-symptoms will be given the higher treatment dose of Tamiflu. Prophylaxis was only given whilst the aim was still containment, and that hope has now been abandonned.
Can you contact Puplic Health in your area? They probably know more about it than paeds, I would imagine.

My understaning is that prohpylactic Tamiflu is still only a short course, not something you could give for months to come in the hope to prevent Influenze (swine, avian or garden variety) forever more. When prophylaxis was still offered here, it was only given to people with "significant exposure" ie members of the same household or people "spending more than 1 hour in less than 1 meter distance" with somebody with swine flu (oh, the joy of public health algorithms ).
