but maybe the Spanish Inquisition might have been on to a good thing...

...there are some women out there for whom I'm sure burning at the stake (or whatever the 21st century environmentally friendly version would be) would be the kindest thing - for them and the people who ever have to have any dealings with them.

The embittered spinster who loves being the stalwart supporter of good causes, who knows that she is the only one one in the street who knows what's best, for everyone else!

And probably has her hair cut in a strict practical protestant bob

Right, you are a doctor, Mary is a heart-sink patient (am I right ?)

tattifer · 07/07/2009 22:17

wilderduck indeed what a terrible thing, the duck would at least float, and I've never yet seen one with either a protestantly practical bob or such a bitter expression on its face.

cory I was picking up more on the Monty Python image of them and their Hammer Horror reputation for see burnable evil in all kinds of readily explainable behaviours. Perhaps I should have focussed more on the earlier medieval habit of assigning the title witch to women who nowadays would siimply be labelled as difficult?

wilderduck · 07/07/2009 22:18

You are not right but you're warm, I think. Step away from that aga.

hester · 07/07/2009 22:19

yes, screamingabdab, the Spanish Inquisition was basically about driving the Jews out of Spain. Modus operandi was, "Convert to Christianity or burn at the stake". (Muslims were also driven out of Spain, but mainly militarily through Crusades etc.)

Not altogether divorced from the European witchburnings, but not the same thing.

Goblinchild · 07/07/2009 22:19

.are you under the impression that the Spanish inquisition were into witch burning?

LOl cory, I was thinking that the owner of a Protestant bob would be in equal danger from the Inquisition!
Even if she weighed more than a duck.

tattifer · 07/07/2009 22:19

No I am me, "you" was her. It was my best attempt at empathy.

OP posts:
screamingabdab · 07/07/2009 22:19

wilder are you talking to me, or her ?

My brain is about to kersplode

screamingabdab · 07/07/2009 22:20

tattifer Ok, I understand

screamingabdab · 07/07/2009 22:22

Thanks hester I am shamefully ignorant about whole swathes of history

wilderduck · 07/07/2009 22:23

To you, dear screaming. I think we need to start again, removing the medieval history and the banking.
Was it about parking Tattifer?

tattifer · 07/07/2009 22:24

I'm the person that she blasted at, I wasn't doing anything that anyone else, including superiors and "customers" had ever had anything but praise for. This bobbed duck blasts at me (instead of reasonably voicing her differing opinion) and suddenly everything has to change.

I'm miffed, possibly hormonally amplified miff, but mostly thinking WTF!!!

I was diefinitely not going for historical accuracy, just the witch burning thing.

What do you do with in the 21st century equivalent situation?!

OP posts:
screamingabdab · 07/07/2009 22:26

Why didn't they support you, not her, tattifer ?

tattifer · 07/07/2009 22:26

Wilder, if I say exactly what it was about I fear that she may be mumsnetter and would quickly write to chief constable and I would have my arse kicked for wanting to bring back burning

OP posts:
tattifer · 07/07/2009 22:29

screaming because its usually easier to cave in to members of public when they're female and the line mgr is male... or so it seems.

Lack of resiliance!

OP posts:
screamingabdab · 07/07/2009 22:36

It's very hard dealing with the general public in the course of your job (it's hard enough dealing with the general public in the course of your life ...)

Are you feeling any better now?

Are you in trouble at work, or is it that she humiliated you ?

tattifer · 07/07/2009 22:42

Ah screaming, there you have it, my pride is dented and I pride myself on never letting it be an issue of pride.

I am doubly dented

OP posts:
screamingabdab · 07/07/2009 22:48

This one really got to you, didn't she ? Is it because she reminds you of someone ?

tattifer · 07/07/2009 22:54

Ah, I see (loving the beard, wish I could grow one that good) she's me anally retentive, bitter and twisted menopausal never married or found that certain someone alter ego of mine!

Dammit, that's whose body it's been hanging out in.

And I'm jealous her bob is preternaturally smooth and straight, mine is bizarrely unruly and curly

OP posts:
screamingabdab · 07/07/2009 22:55

Right, got to go to bed. Have had a good idea.

Write down exactly what you would like to say to Mary, then burn the letter !

Therapeutic, and fitting

tattifer · 07/07/2009 22:56

Can I stuff the duck with it?

Sorry Wilder

OP posts:
screamingabdab · 07/07/2009 22:59

Yes, stuff the duck, the burn the duck, possibly then eat the duck, Peking style (sorry Wilder)

Really going to bed now, talking SO much bollocks

tattifer · 07/07/2009 23:00

nighty night

OP posts:
pickyvic · 07/07/2009 23:51
