last week it was that they were going to charge for the toilets.

i don't understand why anyone would fly with them.

melpomene · 06/07/2009 20:29

That has to be a joke (the standing bit), surely?

Kimi · 06/07/2009 20:32

Well if I pay a quid to use the loo at least I can sit on it.

No I don't think they were joking it was on the news, I was gobsmacked.

Unbelievably, it's almost true.

Nancy66 · 06/07/2009 23:31

Kimi - they prob have cameras to check you don't sit on the lav if you haven't paid.

JesuslovesCatholicSchools · 06/07/2009 23:31

It'll be as bad as First capital connect trains to london bridge at 8.15

moondog · 06/07/2009 23:38

My dh has been on flights from Moscow to Tajikistan (where he used to work ) with peopel standing in the aisles!

Rindercella · 06/07/2009 23:47

YANBU. Planely (heehee) this is one of Ryan Air's dafter ideas.

FlappyTheBat · 06/07/2009 23:49

No, it's not a joke but don't see how he will ever get permission from the Irish Aviation Authority.

Can you imagine the compensation claims passengers would try to make if they were injured during either turbulence or landing/taking off?

Mind you, Michael O'Leary would probably make all standing passengers sign a disclaimer before they got on board the aircraft!

SomeGuy · 07/07/2009 00:12

It's just another publicity stunt to get their name in the news.

mayorquimby · 07/07/2009 10:05

well i think it's a publicity stunt as usual with messr o'leary, but can you explain to me why having standing passengers would be stupid if the technology was availableto make it safe?

notlost · 07/07/2009 15:38

Agreed that it's a publicity stunt, but, mayorquimby, standing passengers would be terribly unsafe during takeoff, landing, and turbulence when even the flight crew are required to be strapped down to something. If there was a jolt to the aircraft every standing passenger would become a very large, airborne projectile.

It would be rather like having a car with 300 passengers in an accident and no one wearing a seatbelt.

Horton · 07/07/2009 15:46

That sounds really dangerous. Are they mad?

oldraver · 07/07/2009 15:49

I think its just a headline grabbing joke as I think it would be against CAA rules. On our last flight the pilot seemed to put his foot down on take off so much all the bags rolled out and we were definitely pushed back hard, and I head several OMG's, anyone standing wouldn't of been by the time we were clear of the ground
