Notalone · 06/07/2009 22:15

LOl at the way this thread has gone. From the OP being peed off with people asking for help to helping someone out looking for a holiday in Wales.

If you are still feeling magnaminous Moondog I am off to Tudweiliog in Aug - please tell me I have chosen a good place?(Penrallt?)

moondog · 06/07/2009 22:23

Oh it's lovely around there!
Great beaches and very peaceful.

Notalone · 06/07/2009 22:25

Ooh lovely. That is exactly what I want (weather depending of course!). What about if it rains though?

moondog · 06/07/2009 22:30

There's a nice art gallery and cafe in Llanbedrog.

Porthmadog has trains, Portmeirion and a soft play centre. Also a pool.

Caernarfon has a castle with a good museum, a Roman museum and a good softplay centre in an old church. Also a pool.

Best bet is to go into a tourist office (one opposite the castle in Caernarfon) and get a handful of leaflets.

Thanks Moondog! Much appeciated I can't wait - I love Wales but this is the first time we have ventured to North Wales. Tenby is our usual stomping ground

moondog · 06/07/2009 22:35

Oh I'm always happy to promote Wales. That's different.

We were in North Wales last year. Great place near Porthmadog. Had to take laundry to the laundromat, and was chatting to a local woman. I asked her if she ever had visited Bristol and she said, 'oh, no. I never go anywhere where I have to fly to...'

The soft play center is brilliant! The cafe there is also great

FAQinglovely · 06/07/2009 23:45

why aren't you lot Europeans then

FAQinglovely · 06/07/2009 23:46

I've told him I'll never let him live that one down

SomeGuy · 07/07/2009 00:17

There are plenty of people willing to help on those threads so why not?

unknownrebelbang · 07/07/2009 00:29

Arf at Moony's marketing on behalf of the Welsh Tourist Board.

R2G · 07/07/2009 01:09

I've found the holiday for 5 people in Europe for only £200 a week...but it's booked up in July...

hands off my holiday for August!

SomeGuy · 07/07/2009 01:34

hmm, that website reads like a pitch for one of those dodgy property companies.

Maybe that's cos he bought it off one (Polaris World).

R2G · 08/07/2009 00:35

Hey Someguy, not sure about Polaris World being dodgy. Certainly for the buyers of the houses I don't think they have been promised help with renting them out like initially planned. However the actual Polaris World sites around this area are stunning I believe (husband keen golfer - yawn- got loads of golfing mates who have already been and their wives etc had good reports too)

This guy is a retired businessman and his family is on the website plus he provided 3 references who I spoke to and said how lovely it is and e-mailed some of their own holiday pictures. He only asked for a really small deposit I really don't think he is dodgy...but I guess you will find out after August if I remember to report back!!

R2G - have you been to the area before. i know it quite well as my Mum lives about 15 mins drive from polaris World. Are you hiring a car? I think this is essential if you are on the complex as the bars and restaurants there are astronomically expensive and a taxi is about 27 euros return into Los Alcazares which has lots of lovely restaurants at very good prices.

R2G · 09/07/2009 00:38

Hi Hersetta

Yes hiring a car. Not just the price but heard some restaurants on the site dont open til 8 which isnt the best with kids. Any more hints and tips greatfully received of what to do and where to go.

Hersetta · 09/07/2009 09:00

I would definitely go to los Alcazares - the beach is lovely (the sea is very warm and very shallow) and you can promenade for miles. In the summer there are lots of bars and cafes on the beach for refreshments. Market day in los Alcazares is Tuesday, but wednesday is market day in Santiago de la Ribera (on the road past the airport) which is much bigger. My mum said in Los Alcazares square on a friday night there is live music and entertainment right through the summer.

I would also reccommend Mazarron for a day trip - slighly more commercial than los Alcazares with more brits (los Alcazares is very Spanish) but still very nice.

The best shopping around is at Mediterranean park - on the road to Cartegena. There is a shopping mall plus a huge Carre four. There are a number of large supermarkets in los Alcazares which will be nearer to Polaris world. There's a big Mercadonna and Best Value. Another mall can be found at Dos Mares - one of the few places open on a Sunday which also has a large supermarket (Eroski's) attached to it.

I would reccommend a trip to la bamba pizza restaurant in los Alcazares (under the arches) for a very cheap and tasy meal - the garlic bread is the best I have ever had. We normally eat for around 20 euros for 4 adults - the pizza's are so big you can easiely share and the garlic bread is a garlic bread pizza - salads are fantastic too.

Hope you have fun - I'm going back the second week of September with our 2 yr old.

blueshoes · 09/07/2009 09:58

moondog, what about Tenby? We really liked it there as far as seaside towns go, the last time, though too far from London for us to do nowadays.

YABU. Why would you want to give someone a smakc over this ?
Very odd.
I have started a help me find a holiday thread. And a help me find lime green shoes for ds2's christening.
Do all those kind of threads upset you, for some unknown bizzare reason ?
