and Gabriella's,Sharpey's,Ryan's in fact the whole of the HSM cast's throats.

I am sat here thinking up ways to do horrid things to them as I have had a full weekend of eldest bratski singin various songs from the films and playing the CD's she has of the films.

Have a great title for the next film - High School Musical 4, the slaying.

Doesn't do his own singing? What is he for then? It's not as if he's the best actor in the world, are ther not enough faux-17-year-olds in the world that they could find one ho could sing and act and dance? (not that he would need to do any very well)

willali · 07/07/2009 11:59

I much prefer Sharpay to the wet drip Gabriella........and I prefer her dress sense

potplant · 07/07/2009 12:04

Having boys doesn't make you immune from HSM I'm afraid. Mine love it.

Katz · 07/07/2009 12:11

he only didn't sing in the first film because the musical score was already written and his voice was too low so someone else sang those songs, he sang in both of the other movies and hairspray. it was a time thing, no time to rewrite the musical score - i know far too much about HSM.

mrsrawlinson · 07/07/2009 12:16

It's OK, Willali, I cried at HSM3 as well.

But only because my iPhone died and I realised there was still an hour to go....

BalloonSlayer · 07/07/2009 12:23

I haven't noticed (disclaimer: not a musical expert) Troy's singing being any lower-pitched in the 2nd and 3rd films. IIRC I was still moaning while watching HSM3 at the cinema, that when they get the blokes to sound like women it means that the women have to sound like they're sucking helium.

I also dislike the way some characters' skin gets lightened, particularly on merchandise.

ButtercupWafflehead · 07/07/2009 12:29

I don't mind the films.

Have yet to have a child old enough to request merchandise,

But someone PLEASE explain why they make HSM kitchen roll

Katz · 07/07/2009 12:29

according to wiki:

Efron's singing talents were disputed when it was revealed that Drew Seeley's voice was blended with his on the soundtrack of High School Musical. An August 23, 2007 interview in Rolling Stone magazine revealed that he had been cast in High School Musical after the songs were written, and the songs (written for a tenor) were somewhat out of his baritone vocal range. However, Efron stated in interviews that he felt his future is that of a serious dramatic actor, not necessarily a singer.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Oh dear God.

yappybluedog · 07/07/2009 13:19

Gabriella is a great role model - she's smart and ditches the boy because she's got a place at a top university

Troy FOLLOWS her, not the other way around

TheFool · 07/07/2009 13:28

pmsl @ him being a dramatic actor

I will admit to welling up during HSM2 the other day when she leaves him I am using pregnancy in my defence.

TheFool · 07/07/2009 13:29

(I have seen it many times, no idea why it set me off that time)

babyicebean · 07/07/2009 13:43

Actually I may give sharpey a reprieve as long as she gives me her clothes.

I am very at such an in depth analysis of HSM!!

My DH maintains that the whole thing is a metaphor for coming out of the closet.

Surely the best female role model is Casey - she is respected by her peers because of her talent (ie writing cheesy love songs), doesn't dress like a tramp (well Disney style tramp) and doesn't need a boyfriend.

potplant · 07/07/2009 13:54

I mean Kelsi not Casey!!

Katz · 07/07/2009 14:37

but Kesi gets together with Ryan, although DH is convinced he's gay.

I think Kelsi, Taylor and Gabriella are all good role models, bright intelligent females who all know what they want.

My fav is Chad though, hmmmmmm

squilly · 07/07/2009 14:42

Loathe em, loathe em, loathe em. At a recent gathering of families from school I was accused of child abuse when I jokingly said I wouldn't let my 8yo dd watch it (was joking only because I know she wouldn't want to).

I'm just Soooo glad we've somehow managed to rear an anti-middle of the road music girl. Mind you, she does seem to have taken an awful liking to Take That!?!

Snorbs · 07/07/2009 15:00

yappybluedog, I agree - Gabriella is a pretty good role model for a girl. She's smart, she doesn't get involved in all the gossip and bitchiness, she just gets on and does what she wants off her own back rather than by exploiting people.

Kelsi's alright, but could do with a bit of backbone. And she is so obviously just a beard for Ryan.

Sharpay's a human Bratz doll, obsessed with appearance and shallow as anything. I wonder if all her attention-seeking is because she has such a distant relationship with her parents. She'll be living in a trailer park with an alcoholic ex-trucker called Billy Bob 20 years her senior, hooked on painkillers and crystal meth with her kids in care by the time she's 30, you mark my words.

(Why, yes, I do get bored watching HSM with DD and so end up analysing the characters to avoid falling asleep... )

potplant · 07/07/2009 15:30

Kelsi is sooooooo not with Ryan.

TrillianAstra · 07/07/2009 15:42

I'm just watching number 2 (so I can see what you're all talking about LOL) and Gabriella is very sweet, she's being nice to Ryan even though his sister is her nemesis.

In real life I would find her just too sweet/nice to bear, of course.

Katz · 07/07/2009 16:16

i like reading between the lines in the script, like when Troy and Chad are discussing getting their cra fixed and Chad says 'I want to take Taylor on a 'real' date'! hmmm now what could he possibly mean?

Kaylo · 07/07/2009 16:36

We love all the HSM movies - my daughter (4 yrs) is in theatre dance class and dances to all of the songs.

Good job I don't hate it really as my son (3yrs) loves it too and wants to start the classes but he's too young yet.

Leave the movies alone It's cheesy Disney at it's most cheesy and unrealistic.

OracleInaCoracle · 07/07/2009 18:22

i love HSM, well i love troy. he's just so pretty, i want to lick him. i have to stuff my hand in my mouth when gabriella is simpering at him to stop myself shrieking "get your dirty, trampy hands of my man. Bitch" not very disney, i know!

angelene · 07/07/2009 21:14

I love HSM - we have only seen 1 and 2 so far and are waiting for 3 to get a bit cheaper. My DD (3.9) LOVES them, especially Sharpay even though she says 'she's silly, she always wants to be the leader'.

I think that HSM1 is quite empowering for kids, and it's far more feminist than the Disney princess nonsense which is all about being saved.

The kids are all great dancers and there is a fantastic comic turn at the centre by Ashley Tisdale - especially in HSM1.

Snorbs · 07/07/2009 21:43

By a strange coincidence, DD asked to watch HSM2 this evening.

Sharpay dresses like a New York hooker and has the morals of an estate agent. Ugh.
