chech their smoke alarms and get a fire safety check from the fire brigade if you need advice on smoke alrmas, escape routes etc, and to remind our loved ones to do the same

We can't help those poor people who died in the tower block fire but we can help prevent it happening again

Shameless use of AIBU I know, sorry

Is there a link to the online form?

motherpi · 05/07/2009 20:36

I think it's a regional thing, but for any of you in S Wales, here it is
s wales fire checks

I googled "fire brigade cardiff" and up it popped. It's a government web address, so perhaps go through your local council site?

motherpi · 05/07/2009 20:37

Where are you Om?

Hulababy · 05/07/2009 20:42

We have a fire alarm on each floor, in the hallways (so 3 in all) which are connected to the mains, with battery back up.

We ahd the fire brigade round from Newport (Caerleon and they were fine. Sadly not in uniform, on an engione or even overly fanciable but extremely helpful

thanks! just reminded me that id switched our electic ones off cos one started making horrible noises at 2am the other week! made DH put it back up though and turn the electric back on for them. (they would have gone to battery power anyway so still were working) but might as well use the electric!

and DH checked em. all working fine.

Metmoo

Thanks Ladies, I've just booked a home visit and will ask about alarms with hush buttons.

purepurple · 06/07/2009 07:15

My smoke alarms were fitted by the fire brigade (Lancashire). They were very friendly and told me about being shot at on the local council estate

NormaSknockers · 06/07/2009 07:42

YANBU, good use of the AIBU thread

We have the ones that are wired into the house & they get tested regulary when DH burns cooks dinner

HolyGuacamole · 06/07/2009 07:51

Great thread! Reminded me that our one upstairs has no battery in it

Have also requested a fire safety visit.

Thanks Peachy!

MilleniumHandNShrimp · 06/07/2009 07:57

Good one Peachy.

Ours are checked annually by the MOD housing people, but it is always worth a reminder. Will get DS1 to check the one in the house he is in

Peachy

DH was saying it yesterday. It has become a habit as they are no longer meant to allowed to swear at in front of the recruits

motherpi · 07/07/2009 22:47

A fireman is visiting at 1830 on Thursday. They even do evening visits

Am rather that they won't be in uniform, though...

tattifer · 07/07/2009 22:59

motherpi a fireman without his uniform on and you're complaining

motherpi · 09/07/2009 21:14

Well, girls, it wasn't the full monty, but they were wearing uniforms and they were marvellous!

The check took less than 30 minutes, they fitted three Fire Angel alarms and gave me some really sound advice.

Can't recommend it highly enough.

Thanks again Peachy
