Who prey on old age pensioners who might not have a complete handle on the ins and outs of the energy supply racket!
I am and - my mother exchanged her gas and electric to N-power at christmas. This was after a man knocked on her door and blinded her with savings. He even came to see me. It all seemed like a good enough package. I specifically asked if there was a standing charge for the pay as you go meter - he said that there was a small nominal charge for it. Fair enough i thought, i know i pay slightly more for my Gas from british gas because im pay as you go, but there is no standing charge so it is proportional to the amount of gas i use.
My mother uses very little gas - its just her, she seems to have an iron constitution and will not have the heating on and have open windows mid winter. She cooks with electric. She couldnt understand why when she topped up her meter she wasn't getting the full amoutn. I phoned n-power this morning and the woman said "well, that will be the standing charge" so i said "how much is it "3.60 a week" I couldnt BELIEVE IT. Thats nearly £16 a month for the privalige of the pay as you go meter.
Needless to say my mum is changing to British Gas.
I intend to complain, the woman on the phone has logged my complaint. There is an address for complaints but i actually feel that they have been misleading to the point of being unlawful. I looked at the introductory booklet, the standing charge is alluded to, but nowhere in this book is the amount reffered to.
So the question is, complain to N-power, or take it higher?
