To not accept a birthday cake made with year old butter icing that has been left in a garage?

I know that my MIL hates me, but really?

She was very excited to tell me the cake was special because she had used the same icing as the cake from ds's last birthday. Yes you read that right.

I didn't eat any and she has got her knickers in a twist about it. Not surprisingly everybody else declined a slice but no, it is me she is annoyed with.

I am an ungrateful DIL and her ds could have done so much better than me. Perhaps that's a whole new thread.

Just needed to vent although if somebody posts on here telling me it would have been fine I will smother my hat with the icing and eat the thing in one.

So what happened when she proudly produced the cake?
What did she say?
Didn't anyone else pipe up and agree with you?

Baisey · 19/06/2009 18:30

Ugh you definately cant keep butter icing that long, even if it was frozen, my mother used to make wedding cakes and that was one thing she ALWAYS used to make up fresh!

Dittany I seldom eat there anyway, I was very suspicious and paranoid especially when I was pregnant. Her fruit always smells fermented too. I stuff the children to bursting before we go there. My husband eats there but declined the cake as he doesn't have a sweet tooth, then came home and had about 2 kitkats!

Oh I feel sick, tell her you could have done so much better for a mil and she is a nasty dirty woman.....

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 19/06/2009 18:41

YOu'renot married to BIL are you? I mean last thing I hecked MIL was still wiping his 35 year old arse but sounds like something she'd do...

yanbu. Not by even the tiniest MIL loving nutter pacifying margin. She's clearly either a loon or murderus and you need to be Very Afraid.

Blu · 19/06/2009 18:42

Luce2006 · 19/06/2009 18:47

YUK!!!!!Can't believe people do those kind of things.....YANBU!!!

HuffwardlyRudge · 19/06/2009 18:48

This is odd.

I would have thought that butter icing would either be fine or obviously rancid. No half way.

Are we Smelling a Rat?

LittleWonder · 19/06/2009 18:54

Ah you are making me miss my deceased ex-MIL. I do miss her, but her food was legendary. She kept her dry ingredients in jars. this lead to her making a cake with washing powder. I licked my finger whilst transferring said cake to plate and foamed at the mouth. Called ex-DH in and whispered about cock-up - whereupon he just told her what she had done. "Nonsense!" said she, took a large bite and then spat it in the flowerbed. I miss her. We only had fruit with mould for pudding - she couldn't see very well - and the eggs in her fridge froze because the temp was too low. She lived to very ripe old age with no poisoning.

Maybe it's a generational thing.

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 19/06/2009 18:56

Ah LW I was going to ask if she died of food oisoning until your last line.....

iHateDairylea · 19/06/2009 19:00

No it doesn't smell too bad.

Sorry to take so long, children are so annoying and do get in the way of my typing!

StealthPolarBear · 19/06/2009 19:20

Katisha · 19/06/2009 19:21

You wouldn't be trolling would you?
It's a good one if you are!

thisisyesterday · 19/06/2009 19:22

it would have definitely gone off after a year. trust me.
i reckon she meant she used the same recipe. and she got arsey because you were rude about it.

just cos it was in the same container doesn;t mean it;s the same stuff

Glitterknickaz · 19/06/2009 19:24

sounds like something someone I used to know would do...

ChippyMinton · 19/06/2009 19:26

Your MIL let you take photos of the icing bowl? Have you any of the cake?

Stayingsunnygirl · 19/06/2009 19:28

That doesn't look anything like the butter icing I make, and I certainly wouldn't be eating it either! I'm going to save this story to tell my lovely MIL when she comes to stay later in the summer.

Revolting.

Why all the troll comments?

Some people do really do this sort of thing. The mil I mean.

pointydog · 19/06/2009 19:33
