When I worked as a model in Japan I was given a job which was to give out sweets for a sweet manufacturer to children in a supermarket (yes a lowly model job, I wasn't that gorgeous)

Well, my friend and I dished out the sweets but it soon became obvious some children were greedy little tykes and would grab a handful whereas others would only take one and proffer a big thank you.

After a few hours of this we took matters into our own hands and decided we'd give a handful of sweets to the behaved, polite children but only give one to the rude ones.

Well there was a particularly horrid boy who encouraged by his horrid parents, grabbed a handful and then circled with the intention of coming back for more.

We were having none of that and hid the sweet basket whenever he approached.

They tried several times before giving up. It must have been humiliating.

Were we being unreasonable?

No, but those must be some pretty good drugs you're on!

junglist1 · 17/06/2009 20:53

No, greed is one of my pet hates. The parents probably wanted some themselves

RoseBlossoms · 17/06/2009 20:54

How odd of course YWBU!

And while I'm at it, another confession...I used to be given 10,000 yen cash daily for my obento (lunchbox) for a modelling job that lasted for 2 wks (equiv to £40 a day) but then someone else in the company did not know about that and I would be given an obento too.

I simply did not tell anyone about it...

And another... I used to pretend I was Russian and therefore could not understand English whenever somebody tried to practice their English on me...

When I was a kid, I used to wander off from my mum in Tesco and speak in "Chinese" to strangers. They must have known I was just making noises I thought sounded like language, but they tried to ask where my parents were / was I lost etc. anyway. How embarassing I was at least 10 or 11.

Lotster · 17/06/2009 21:11

"I'm just mad me!"

Seriously though, this isn't interesting.

BarrelofLoves · 17/06/2009 21:17

I used to do that too todd! (But not Chinese)

We had a french exchange visit at school and I thought the way French children spoke English was infinitely better than the way we spoke it so from then on my friends and I copied the accent (for at least another 2 terms) really grated on the teacher's nerves!

£40 a day for your lunchbox?

BarrelofLoves · 17/06/2009 21:29

Yes before the Japanese economy bubble burst

My sister and I used to talk in a made up language in campsite shower rooms as no one knew who we were.

People are often very different to what they were like when younger, but would you like yourself if you met your younger self now?

poshwellies · 17/06/2009 22:08

at lotster

BarrelofLoves · 17/06/2009 22:10

No, I was totally and utterly self centred and happy to get away from the constrictions of family life. Now I seem to put every one else's needs before my own and I'm quite shocked at some of the things I did without even a conscience that it was most probably selfish/thoughtless.
