to think that morning sickness effects both women carrying girls and boys equally as bad?

Read an article saying that bad morning sickess is more likely if your carrying a girl.......

oh much worse with ds, lost a shed load of weight and was admitted to hospital for a drip!

agree its 50 / 50

girlylala0807 · 14/06/2009 21:01

Hmm...

25 weeks of constant sickness and lovely ds

Claire2009 · 14/06/2009 21:02

About the same here.

  • all day/every day ms, till I was 22/23wks - girl.

  • the same, boy. But I did have a lot of heartburn also!

juuule · 14/06/2009 21:04

Didn't apply to me.

No morning sickness at all with boys or girls. With hindsight I was a bit of nausea around the 9/10w mark but not so you'd notice really.

mrsrawlinson · 14/06/2009 21:06

Try having one of each, at the same time. That's a bag of fun, I can tell you....

sweetnitanitro · 14/06/2009 21:14

I'm hoping it's true, I puked for 9 long months when I was expecting dd. Next time if I have a boy I might get off a bit lighter

AnyFucker · 15/06/2009 11:51

you won't sweet

my all-day sickness was equally as bad with a boy and a girl

if someone had offered to shoot me, I would have happily said yes

thank God I never have to go through that again

katiestar · 15/06/2009 12:37

For me it has made no difference .I have had 4 babies 2 boys then 2 girls.I was very bad requiring several episodes in hospital with the first three, but the fourth was less severe.Have subsequently had 2 MCs at 11 weeks and little MS with them
So I guess I would say the first three pregnancies are the worst !!

weegiemum · 15/06/2009 12:40

For me it was vile until 16-18 weeks with both dds, throwing up several times a day every day.

Felt a bit nauseous a few times with ds.

So it held true for me.

Stigaloid · 15/06/2009 12:40

I am on second pregnancy and this has by far been so much worse than with DS. I had nausea with DS all th e way through from 8 weeks. With this one i have been so sick since week 4 i have been put on anti-sickness medicine as couldn't keep anything down, even smallest amount of liquid. I don't know what i am having yet but i don't think it is different with gender, i just think it gets worse with progressive pregnancies. I am defintely stopping at 2.

Peachy · 15/06/2009 12:43

YANBU

I used to work on a helpline for hyperemesis and the results of the rpegnancies were 50/50 as you'd expect with any PG

Our family its that mum had no sickness (3 girls, athough none either with the boys she lost) and I had HG with all 4 boys

MsSparkle · 15/06/2009 12:49

I had no sickness with dd but horrible sickness with ds!

carmenelectra · 15/06/2009 13:06

I felt sick with first 2 pregnancies, never sick, just nausea till about 18 wks, then fine. Both ds's. I would say i probably feel slighly less sick with this pregnancy(am 15 wks now) but still have suffered. I am hoping that this is a girl so i can say then that gender doesnt make a difference.

minouminou · 15/06/2009 13:33

Had hyperemesis both times - with DS first, and DD recently. This last pregnancy was marginally worse, but I noticed that the sickness was made worse by tiredness, which, when you've got a bonkers 2-year-old running around, is inevitable.
I think if the genders were the other way round, this 2nd preg would have been worse, even though it'd mean a boy.
Really don't think there's much to choose between them.
Bleuuuurrgghghghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

BroodyChook · 15/06/2009 13:44

Tis rubbish. I had horrendous HG with both pregnancies, and have two DS's.

ChocolateRabbit · 15/06/2009 13:47

No. I wasn't well with DD but have just found out DC2 is a DS and have felt much much worse this time. Might be lack of sleep though.

mumof2222222222222222boys · 15/06/2009 14:09

2DSs and no morning sickness. Well other than slight queasiness in first 3 months. Unlikely to try for DC3 to test the theory though!

Heartburn...well different story. Drank Gaviscon by the litre.

Thegreenfliesareonme · 15/06/2009 19:32

'morning' sickness? I just had constant nausea all day for months with ds, not so long (but still all day) with dds.

tryingtobemarypoppins · 15/06/2009 19:39

Well I guess I'm right then! Every pregnancy is different I guess regardless of what your having! Thanks girls xx

Just out of interest, when did your sickness start and end?

OP posts:
LaTrucha · 15/06/2009 22:06

Mine started at 7 weeks and didn't end until I had DD.

PrettyCandles · 15/06/2009 22:15

I'm not sure whether the morning sickness was slightly easier with each pg, or whether it was just as bad each time but I managed it better.

It started at about 6w with my boys, with dd OTOH it started before I could even check that I was pg. I had a miscarriage at 7w which I am sure was a girl, because that time I had also been having morning sickness from before I could test.

TrillianAstra · 15/06/2009 22:19

AIBU to think that a study of a million women reporting on their morning sickness is better evidence than anyone on MN saying 'I had 2 DDs and 2 DSs and so I know that this study is right/wrong/whatever'?

Biglips · 15/06/2009 22:22

i never had any MS with dd1 but had it a few times with dd2..just one sick and i wud be ok.

Wonderstuff · 15/06/2009 22:23

I had heard the theory and so was really pleased that I was having a girl, thinking well it won't get worse than this, now I'm not so sure. I think that really ms is very very poorly understood, I think there are different types of sickness. In 'misconceptions' Naomi Wolf says she when she went to see Ina May Gaskin she had an old handwritten book describing loads of different types of ms with different remedies for each.

WinkyWinkola · 15/06/2009 22:26

I have one DS - was very ill with him in pregnancy. Could barely move or eat for nausea and fatigue.

DD - apart from a bit of sickness where I actually threw up, the pregnancy was a doddle.

I'm currently pg with a boy and it's been exactly the same as with my first DS. Lasted until 16 weeks.

Life is so very very very good when you don't feel sick!
