to feel embarassed and ashamed that obese tourists don't seem to have a conscience?

Ok I understand comfort eaters often have mental health issues and I don't want to tar every overweight person with the same brush.

But, eating enough for a family of four in every meal in a third world country where many starve or disable their children to beg for food, or putting their enormous backsides on a tiny donkey with its ribs poking through to climb the side of a mountain; or eating a US themepark turkey thigh which could feed a whole family but eaten as a 'snack' or drinking a 'bucket'ful of soft drink instead of a cupful; I mean, how can any of this happen?

Are obese people so unconcerned that to fuel their craving for the food their bodies don't need factory farming is on the scale it is, with all the misery for the animals that go with it?

"You don't know any obese people? So everyone you know has a BMI less than 30??? My sister is a size 12, has a lovely figure, and is one BMI point away from being called obese (!!!???)... you have no size 12/size 14 friends? I find that hard to imagine."

Really? I'm a generous size 12 and my BMI is just below 22. I'd need to put on another 4 stone before my BMI went over 30.

I would not say size 12/14 as obese either, just pretty normal actually.

But I learnt a lot from this thread, namely, most obesity is caused by medical complaints and not from over eating wrong foods, and there is no point talking about it as it is too sensitive a topic.

No one likes to be told to change their lifestyle to save the world, and it is patronising to do so and we're all to blame for much of the evil going on in the world.

I still would love people to think twice before eating more than they need, as factory farming, fast food outlets etc rely on a market of over eaters.

But more importantly, sorry for any offence I've caused.

Vase - do you find pubs empty out when you go in?

LastOrders · 12/06/2009 21:23

I'm fat & I love it.

Now hand me a small child to eat.

Tortington · 12/06/2009 21:25

this whole thread was based on ignorance.

nevergonnapost · 12/06/2009 21:31

i have stated on previous thread i am a size 18 i do not think i am guilty of doing any of the things you accuse me of doing just because im fat i dont eat meat so no chomping on anybodys legs would never harm a donkey ..i love them...i buy most of my clothes from charity shops so i am constantly contributing to help third world countries oh and lastly i never go abroad so you wont catch me on the third world beach you speak of disgusting everyone with my vileness..grrrrrrr

That last post, vaseofetc, is quite funny in a sort of Adrian Mole deadpan kind of way...

simplesusan · 12/06/2009 22:51

Haven't read the whole thread but......
You have put me off for life ever visiting any third world areas where children are starving before my eyes whilst I merrily gourge on 25 chickens (even though I don't eat chicken). Then I can climb onto a donkey and look at yet more dying children, right before my eyes. Funnily enough I wouldn't ever want to sit on a manky flea bitten donkey, even if it meant that I could ponder the problems of the entire third world whilst riding said donkey.
What a bizzare thread.

FairLadyRantALot · 12/06/2009 23:12

But obesity on one hand and starvation on the other are unrelated...
solidgoldbrass put across a very good point...and i htink custy too....

it's teh big corporations that are simply just greedy that are the most to blame...they want consumerism and they have no problem doing that on the back of the poor....which is a double whammy to the poor...

Vase/Jojo - I see this was one of only two threads left after your trollspree the other night. How is your DH's bladder condition and shoe fetish btw?
