...should I even bother giving it to our 14 month old DS?

It comes out completely whole. You could just run it under the tap and stick it back in the tin.

IS there any point whatsoever??

LMAO!!

ThePhantomPlopper · 06/06/2009 15:24

I think the goodness is still absorbed by the body though.

at running it under the tap. .

McSnail · 06/06/2009 15:25

I've wondered the same thing - I never use it now.

Thandeka · 06/06/2009 15:27

YABVU it makes your poo look like it's studded with mini sunshines. That is TOTALLY the point of sweetcorn- to brighten up your toilet bowl.

ThePhantomPlopper · 06/06/2009 15:28

LOL at mini sunshines.

LadyAga · 06/06/2009 15:29

if it comes out as it went in then it obviously hasn't been digested so no nutritional benefit.

McSnail · 06/06/2009 15:29

"YABVU it makes your poo look like it's studded with mini sunshines."

Ghaah. Ghaaah. And Ghaaaaaaaaaagh again.

Divvy · 06/06/2009 15:29

Does that mean it has no calories either?

starkadder · 06/06/2009 15:29

hahahahah mini sunshines, love it

But really - DOES the goodness still get absorbed by the body?? Does it? Because he LOVES the stuff so I do like giving it to him, but really....

Overmydeadbody · 06/06/2009 15:30

Well, you could break it up a little before feeding it to your DS so he has at least some chance of absorbing all the nutrients inside.

I love cream of sweetcorn soup.

Divvy · 06/06/2009 15:30

ps, it looks worse in dog shit!

Overmydeadbody · 06/06/2009 15:33

It's only the outer skin that our body can't digest, if we chew it to break open the kernels we still get all the goodness out. If your baby isn't doing this then mash it up or even blend it and mix it with things like mashed potato or use it as a pasta sauce etc.

Sweetcorn is full of loads of beneficial nutrients.

ThePhantomPlopper · 06/06/2009 15:34

The body digests the insides and leaves the shell as it is harder to digest. so you get the nutrients.

ThePhantomPlopper · 06/06/2009 15:34

x posts.

cookielove · 06/06/2009 15:36

and plus it taste really nice

starkadder · 06/06/2009 15:43

thanks guys! A bit of confusion though -

PhantomPlopper - are you saying that even though it LOOKS untouched, the insides have actually been digested?

To be fair, I have not closely examined a piece that has been through the digestive system. Have any of you?? I am hoping one of you lovely ladies has done this so I don't have to...

I'd rather not mash it up if I don't have to, because the main reason he loves it so much is the fact that he can pick up little bits and pop them into his mouth.

OP posts:
Thandeka · 06/06/2009 15:45

The insides defo get absorbed it is just the shell but that is so long as it has been chewed properly so the insides have squeezed out IYSWIM. Otherwise stomach acids have a harder time to get to the insides through the tiny opening in the sweetcorn.

princessmel · 06/06/2009 15:47

I love sweetcorn.

ds loves corn on the cob aswell. Yum, will have some with our tea.

blueshoes · 06/06/2009 16:15

The insides have been digested

Thandeka · 06/06/2009 18:07

just had chicken salad with sweetcorn because of this thread.

pjmama · 06/06/2009 18:19

My DC would totally agree with you. As far as they are concerned, sweetcorn (or 'popcorn' as they insist on calling it!) is totally poisonous and to be avoided at all costs. And coz its bright yellow, its damn near impossible to sneakily hide in anything either! Tricky stuff...

applepudding · 06/06/2009 19:05

I think its the fact that it goes through whole that makes it good for you - fibre etc.

Othersideofthechannel · 06/06/2009 19:08

I would keep on giving it so it stays familiar. Even if he is not chewing it properly now, he will be when he is older and he will get the benefit then.

Acinonyx · 06/06/2009 19:17

I think the odd kernal gets digested. At least I hope so.

junglist1 · 06/06/2009 19:32

I love the title of the OP
