and don't seem to understand the fundemental ideologies of the main two parties, which never change?

How can people not have a fundemental ideology/philospohy which they believe in? Is it he fault of the parties not to make it clear, or is it that people vote for whatever will make them, personally, better off at any one point in their lives?

Pogles- Neil Kinnock successful? the Welsh windbag? he was the PM who never was- a great big flop. He was a disaster. And his dear wife was never a politician, she got elected as an MEP on his back. Talk about champagne socialists- they must be laughing all the way to the bank.

But one of the issues in the UK is surely that you are voting simultaneously both for an individual to work for you, and for the make up of the Government. Thus someone who wanted to see David Cameron as PM, say, might none the less be aware that the Labour candidate would be an excellent constituency MP, while the Tory candidate would not do anything like such a good job. And vice-versa.

A staunch Tory friend of mine voted Lib Dem at the last election, because although the Tory candidate is an extremely nice man, the Lib Dem candidate was far more experienced, apparently much more committed, had something important to bring to British politics as a whole, and was moreover making a point on an important local issue. He continues to feel justified in his decision because these MP has come extremely well out of the recent election expenses controversy.

In fact, I find people who will vote one particular way willy-nilly rather irritating - it seems to me at times to be an excuse for lack of thought. Many of my colleagues and I devote time to reviewing all the parties and people that we can vote for before elections, and we're proud to say that we haven't made our mind up before we review the options thoroughly.
