AIBU to refuse to visit my ILs because of the election results?

My ILs live in one of the areas that have elected a BNP councillor. I am completely disgusted and sickened by this - is it a good enough excuse not to visit them? It's not a very nice place anyway, and I can't bear the thought of looking around when we're in the pub (or more likely, the working man's club) wondering which of the fellow customers are vile racists.

OK, I probably am BU. But I really don't want to go there now, not that I ever really did before. I'd want to shout "you ought to be ashamed of yourselves!" in the street

What's wrong with working men's clubs? The dominos, the strippers, the drinking of the Newcastle Brown, the Jim, "Twat" Davidson, the horse-racing and the voting-in of the British Nazi Party.

Fine, but the clue is in the title. Working men's clubs. Doesn't that have something to say about SAHM's? Or working women? Why is it snobish to avoid such places?

You see, I disagree frogwatcher (in the nicest possible way of course!!) but I do think that all people who vote for the bnp are racist. Not overtly so, but deep down they secretly agree with sending 'non-whites home' and 'immigration is the root of all evil'.

Also, it is possible for people to be racist even though they have friends and family from different nationalities. I know a bloke who has a mixed race daughter, yet he is just the sort to vote bnp and hates asian people.

Ninky-you are so living in the past . 'Working Men's Club' these days is just a term. There aren't many of them left & those that are shouldn't be forced to change their title just to conform to todays society. Women ARE allowed although at 53 I am old enough to remember when they weren't allowed into the billiard room . You are joking about strippers surely & Newcastle Brown? We are in the Midlands so don't know but I'm sure those more northern will have an issue. Comedians like Jim Davidson no longer exist thank goodness but our local domino league raise a lot of money for local charities. Horse racing? well sport of kings, say no more . BTW- most working class (if they still exist) vote labour!!!

I think it's a bit unreasonable to not visit the area! It's still under the rule of law, you know! but fab excuse! Unless THEY voted BNP themselves. And even then, you should go and see them and tell them why they're wrong.

Hope you check out the human rights records of your holiday destinations just as carefully..
