or else there is a real possibilty the BNP might actually get a seat.

So even if you are pissed off with all of the MPs and main parties go and vote for somone.

(unless of course you are a BNP voter in which case this is just a reminder that the election is held on fridays )

OK, I will be voting but until today I didn't even know what the constituency was for Europe. Have found out that the whole of Scotland is one of 12 constituencies in the UK and I'm not pleased about that at all. Anyhow, only one party has bothered to leaflet me and I had no clue about the other parties, candidates or their policies until doing some serious internet work this evening. Not very impressive. Plus the voting system is so damned complicated. The whole approach is not at all conducive to informed voting.

Vote!

Have to say am puzzled by people not knowing who to vote for- if that means their names, rather than their party, I can just about see that- but not if you mean which party.

Surely, the philospohy of a party stays the same, so if you are believer in those principles you will always vote for them, unless they radically change?

Just as an example, if you believe in communism, you will always vote for communism...

A party's core beliefs hardly change, though they may tweak them a bit to coincide with voters' expectations and to reflect current public opinion.

Try this website: www.votematch.co.uk/europe/

I did this yesterday as I didn't have a clue who to vote for.

Basically, you answer questions about policy and hey presto, it matches your answers with the main parties.

I have just done the survey and it excludes the Conservative party- they do not feature in the end results at all

MorningTownRide · 04/06/2009 09:26

One of the questions at the end is something like 'Are there any parties that you would not vote for?' (or vice versa). So you probably chose the Conservative party, that's why they didn't come up OR you don;t agree with ANY of their policies. You can switch between all the parties to see how you match up.

Sorry just checked, it says:

"Choose which parties you would consider voting (all are selected by default)."

Did you deselect the Cons.?

I've just answered it pretending to be an anti-Europe, pro-business Conservative and got UKIP top, then Conservative.

Maybe you accidentally de-highlighted them on the 'who would you consider voting for' screen?

to my embarrassment i have never voted, will do today though.

The beauty of the European elections is that they are proportional representation so you can vote for the party you actually support, not just the one you think has a chance of winning.

So, Nahui, if you are a good match to Green policies, it's fine to vote for them, there are a few Green MEPs already.

That site is ace, Morningtown! I'm going to post it on my FB page, lest I haven't bullied my friends enough already about voting.

Oh ladies you will love me
I am generally quite ignorant to politics, and to my embarrassment I have never voted!
However, I feel that I would like to make a change and vote today. I am really concerned about the BNP getting a seat, but I just don't know who to vote for.
Would anyone care to talk to me about who they think I should vote for, and help me to break my voting virginity?!

just skip the issues you aren't bothered by and answer the ones you care about....eg I don't want more nuclear power stations or to join the euro etc. so answered accordingly.

It came up with green for me.

Is it coming up with Green for everyone ?

Is this survey devised by the Green party?

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 04/06/2009 13:08

Came up with green for me aswell despite no prioritising greeen issues in the selection.

I think the survey is c/o Greens- I was very certain which party I wanted to vote for, and answered according to their views on Europe- I also double checked the region and I did the survey correctly. Have been to vote anyway- just did the quiz out of cuiroisity.

howtotellmum - I disagree. That's the lazy attitude that made lifetime Labour voters sleepwalk into Tony Blair's era and everything that came with it. When I'm voting of course I consider the main party's policies, but I also pay close attention to the individual candidates and their own personal views. This is particularly important in local elections, and in the European elections where the whole agenda is rather different. In this case I chose to vote for the only party fielding a credible candidate (ie high up their list) who actually lives in my region and understands our problems.
