AIBU?

to think that small kids should be in bed by now?

Neighbours across the road from me have been sitting on their front step all day drinking and shouting at each other and their kids. They are still there now. A few of the children are wandering in the road, dummies in mouths, pushing prams with no shoes and socks on. It's quarter past eleven at night!

I'm getting really pissed off about the constant shouting and swearing, especially when it's aimed at the kids, but I don't think there's much I can do about it. There's no way I'm going out to complain, I live on my own, I'm 6 months pregnant, and I wouldn't feel safe in my house anymore if I said anything. I very much doubt it would make a difference anyway.

Just wondered what everyone else thinks about it really.

Aye, I'm getting pissed off in advance for when I have the baby too. That's if it carrys on but I have no reason to think it won't. I know I'll get in a rage if he's getting woken up all the time and I'm getting no sleep either.

I would be fuming if I was you.

I think it's disgusting that the children are up at this time running about in the street, whilst the adults drink on the doorstep.

I'm actually amazed that some people think that this is OK!

from what i can see, there's six adults out there, and seven kids, ranging from a baby in a pram to about eight years old. mainly toddlers though. and it's 25 past twelve now and they're still making a racket.

I'm hoping he'll be fine too, I'm going to try not to keep too quiet when he is sleeping so that he gets used to noise and can sleep though it.
This might sound like I'm going a bit too far, but would it be alright for me to phone the local police? Just to see if they can come and tell them to keep it down a bit?

I'm still unsure about phoning. They're still out there now, last time I looked the toddlers were still out there too. I don't understand why they need to sit on the front and drink. I don't understand why they can't go inside and do it, and stop disturbing people. Bugger it, I'm going to phone them.

They're gonna send someone out. Hope this sorts it, for tonight at least.

bloody hell, I am shocked. just called the police back. I heard a toddler crying, so went and looked out of my upstairs window, and a girl/woman walked over to this little girl, saying sweetly "aww baby, what's the matter?" a second later then literally screams in the child's face "who the fuck do you think you're talking to! fucking swearing at me!" little girl then starts crying really loudly and attempts to run away, woman chases after her, "aww come here baby, it's alright" then screams in her face again. I am fuming. the child was really scared.

police have been, neighbours are on their way in now. They aren't too pleased about it though. They were shouting about "fucking arseholes calling the police", and that we should all "shut your fucking windows". I'm worried now that there may only be a couple of people with windows open, me included, which could narrow it down as to who called. But why should I have to shut my windows when it's red hot, just so I don't have to listen to that bunch of wankers? Pissed off and upset now.

Rationalist

In your position, I would try and move. You have my sympathy.

thanks for the support
I'm seriously considering moving, but I'll probably wait until after I've had the baby. Unless things get worse in the meantime.

no need to do that, someone in the street is already playing their stereo loudly. it's probably them though! I'm off out in ten minutes to go to my aunties caravan til tomorrow. Will be nice to get away from it all even if it's only for a night.
