do they not know the correct preposition after "fed-up"?

and also the use of "of" after "off" such as...

can't think of an example, but someone will..the "of" is not needed.......

I hate when people pronounce Noos instead of news ...also hate ".......back in the day..." and "...of an evening.."

JodieO · 02/06/2009 02:14

A lot of the things mentioned are colloquialisms though, I really to find it pretentious of people to sit and judge others purely on the basis of what they write.

Knowing the correct english doesn't make you a better person or even more intelligent. Some of the dumbest people I've met are university leavers.

I hate the way people on here seem to look down on anyone that doesn't know the correct terminology for everything. It really doesn't matter!! If that's all you have to worry about then you should be grateful.

JodieO · 02/06/2009 02:16

Forgot to add that I think YABVU.

Just seen some accent mentioned here too, sorry we can't all reside in middle england

LadyG · 02/06/2009 13:51

I do agree with the OP but JodieO too has a valid point. I hate it when I screech at my 3 year old 'We say should have not should of' in the manner of Hyacinth Bouquet. ' I am embarassed to admit I hate it because it sounds common. (And I am by no stretch posh meself )

LadyG · 02/06/2009 13:53

oh and can't spell embarrassed either or punctuate.

SOLOisMeredithGrey · 02/06/2009 14:02

I feel so at home here today!

I heard someone on the TV yesterday say probaly arghhhhhhh!

My dad and I look at one another and roll our eyes at the dreadful use of the English language on the television.

I went onto a dating site a couple of weeks ago and said in my profile that I love speaking and listening to the Queen's English. I had a chap write to me to say that he'd love to 'talk the Queen's English with me'. I didn't reply!

MrsBeakman · 02/06/2009 18:03

howtotellmum When do people use "There's" when "They're" is required? I've not heard that. Do people say "There's out" when they mean "They're out?"

howtotellmum · 02/06/2009 18:42

No, MrsB what they say is

"There's plenty of trains to London", when what they should say is "There're plenty of trains..."

trains being plural, so you need a plural verb ( are) not the singular verb -is.

Glad I found this thread - I thought I was alone...

Bored of
Fed up of

These are my greatest irritants, especially when people write them in the their Facebook status, thereby announcing how stupid they are!

FaintlyMacabre · 03/06/2009 09:33

What do you think of the phrase 'What do you think to X'? I see it on here all the time - drives me mad.

islandlassie · 03/06/2009 09:47

Oh, this is the place for me.

I don't like how grammer and punctuation are being forgotten at schools! I was never taught much about them at school and am quite annoyed about it bacause I feel i have missed out!

Grammer and punctuation ARE important to make sense of words!

islandlassie · 03/06/2009 09:51

P.S I am not picking on people but getting annoyed at society in general.......

And off i go into a rant.... rah rah rah.....

howtotellmum · 03/06/2009 14:25
