to not go to my best friends hen do at 32 wks

I'm bridesmaid for my best friend and she's organised her hen do in Edinburgh. Problem is i live in Cornwall and will be 32 weeks at the time!

She really wants me to go and i feel bad as i missed all of the bridesmaids fittings as i was suffering with morning sickness.

It wouldn't be so bad if the airlines would let me fly but i'll have to drive 4 hours then get a train for 6!

I do really want to go but don't know if i will be physically able to cope with the journey (even if i do it in two stages with a break at my mums) and the walking around, going out etc once we are there.

How capable of travelling was everyone else at 32 weeks and am i being unreasonable?

i wouldn't go even if i wasn't pg - you are not being unreasonable - you live way too far away

You can fly when you're 32 weeks pregnant, if you have a doctor's letter certifying that you're unlikely to have an early birth. I'm 27 weeks now and having to fly quite a lot for work. You need the letter from 28 weeks, and they'll take you up to 35 - after than none of them will.

I found some info here

Whether you want to or not is of course a very different matter! Either way, I hope you enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

we drove to south of france and I was 32 weeks, felt fine and we went sightseeing loads. I enjoyed it. For me personally, it was only difficult in the last couple of weeks. I would go if I were you, once the baby arrives you dont get to do much stuff like this without it being a major hassle. are you sure you cant fly??
If you really dont feel like it,why dont you organise something else instead a bit closer to home? Make a fuss of your friend that way?

Same here, I wouldn't go from Cornwall to Edinburgh even if I wasn't pregnant. It's just too far. It would have to be some pretty spectacular all expenses paid gala night of a lifetime before I'd go.

trixymalixy · 29/05/2009 16:18

I'm 30 weeks pregnant at the moment and think i would manage it this time, but wouldn't have managed it last time as I was on complete bed rest at 32 weeks last time.

You can't really say for definite until closer to the time.

YA so NBU!! I was asked to go to a hen do at 34 weeks and it was local but I said no. Didn't want to be wobbling about with sore feet all night watching everyone else get ratted.

Also with my work I have to travel a bit and for health and safety reasons they wouldn't let me travel long distances from about 20 weeks, Cornwall to Edinburgh is a hell of a journey to make when you are 32 weeks.

Your friend should understand (mine didn't tho but she wasn't my best friend)

lynniep · 29/05/2009 16:19

I'm really sorry you're in this situation, but I probably wouldnt go. You don't need the stress/discomfort of such a long journey.
I did go out on a friends hen night at ( I think) about 6 months but I was not so big and it was not so far away (about 2 hrs train) - plus it was a pretty 'gentle' night i.e. a meal followed by a bar - but we booked an area so got to sit down. Then the 'hardcore' lot went off to a club (I was one of those once!) and I went off to the hotel with another pg friend.

OhBling · 29/05/2009 16:22

What is your friend planning to do for her hen do? If it's a pub crawl followed by dancing to cheesy music in a night club and been picked up by inappropriate teenagers, YADNBU. However, if it's a girly weekend away in a nice spa or something I'd say try to find a way to do it. It will mean a lot to her.

I would have grabbed the organsiation from her so that I could choose what we did!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 29/05/2009 16:24

I wouldn't go.... though I've been pretty immobile with SPD by 32 weeks in both my pregnancies...

lamby79 · 29/05/2009 16:25

Thanks for all the replies!

I would have booked flights originally, when they were still £0.01p but Flybe only allow you up to 34 wks and at that time my EDD was 2 wks earlier! They're too expensive now!

As is the whole trip really...i should be saving money for when the little'un arrives!

Oh, still undecided!
